  • Twice this week I have had relatives asking me about SB. Both times they said "Now that's like low-carb, right?" I get so tired of telling people this is not a low carb diet. It is a healthy carb diet. I don't know why there is so much misinformation out there about SB.
  • Thanks to all of you for sharing! It is really exciting to hear everyone so jazzed about this program. I am nearly 1 month on this program and am down 9 pounds. My favorite part is the "real" food I've been eating - almost nothing packaged or processed. I am becoming a SBD girl too!!! Keep up the good work all!
  • yeah to the success stories! It really makes it feel so much more worth it and that all your hard work will pay off by reading these stories! Now I can't wait until I hit my goal!
  • Sometimes I tell people I eat a whole foods diet, maybe you've heard of it, South Beach?! I get tired of that look people get when you tell them you're on South Beach. Everyone thinks I'm "done" now anyway -so I can go back to eating french fries, right?!

I didn't have a doctor telling me I had to lose weight - I had my body thinking it was a lot older than it is. I ached all the time, my knees are a mess, I've got 2 herniated discs, I had no energy, no stamina, couldn't even make it up a flight of stairs or a small hill without being totally winded and I was about to need a bigger size again.I really hated the way I felt and I got up one day and decided it was time to make some changes. Don't get me wrong, I've done this before, but this time I knew I had to find something I could live with from now on. I'm mostly vegetarian (I eat seafood occasionally) and was already eating primarily whole foods, organic and local whenever possible, so this plan really fit my lifestyle.

As other people have said the control is the best thing for me. I've spent pretty much my whole life overweight and out of control with food. SBD has changed all that for me. I don't feel deprived. I don't usually even want the foods I can't have so it's easy to say no thanks. I've found this plan can change your relationship with food if you follow it and that's nothing short of a miracle for me
  • I consider myself a success story. I was never able to get my crazy eating habits under control until I found SBD. Even now, if I go off plan a little, I might have a couple of bites of a desert, but nothing like I used to do. In essence, I think I eat like a "normal" person with some self control now, and I always used to wonder why other people could do that and not me.

In short, over 70 lbs in 18 months, and a lifetime change in my health and eating habits. I call that success! Even though I'd like to lose another 25 - 30 lbs., I'm just enjoying being where I am right now. The rest will come with time.
  • I never had a weigh problem. Was a skinny child. Then in my 40's, I started packing on the pounds. I tried every diet. Had success with WW, then went off program. Then I read about SBD in 2003 and tried it. Had great success with it. Then I went off plan and gained all the weight I lost, plus an extra 10 lbs. In 2007, I found out I had a blockage and had a stent put in one of my main arteries. I had heard that WW had a program similar to SBD and joined and did WW Core until this Sept. I was never able to get my cholesterol quite where it needed to be. I decided to read my book again and went back to the beach. In less than a month, I was able to finally get my HDL and triglycerides where they needed to be. I still need to lose about 4 or 5 lbs but I'm happy where I'm at right now. I'm in a size 6-8. With the SBD, you lose inches, even if you don't lose pounds. I can't say enough good things about this diet. The food is fantastic. I don't eat processed foods anymore. I can have a dessert and not go crazy. I don't consider this a DIET, but a lifestyle. I, too, have to explain to people that it's not a low carb diet.
