  • Zeff I know what you mean about the 15 year old's gift list - my dh will be 43 in November and all he ever wants for anniv, birthday and especially christmas is video games, remote control something or another and electronics and like a kid he fowns when he gets clothes. The saying is true men never grow up
  • Lori sounds like BIL needs a slap with an aluminum bat!
Cynd Thus far I have used them in place of pasta as logn as you rinse them reallly well they don't have a funny smell and 1 min in the micro or 3 in boiling water and they're done!
Zeff I think all men stop maturing at around 12-15 its just the way it is! take a pic of the cake when it's done!
  • We may have found a new place...yay! It is a bit outside of Lafayette...but on a route that would be easier for DH to drive to school in the fall. It's a condo, but two floors with 3 br/2 ba and a loft area. The kitchen is really cute (with recovered barn wood cabinets - a little on the small side, but more open than our kitchen now. All BEAUTIFUL wood floors, cathedral ceilings, TONS of windows and natural light, two decks (a walk out on the lower level and another connecting two bedrooms). Large dining room area with a stained glass window. The only unit connected to it is a smaller one bedroom/1 floor condo that has a college girl living in it. The yard is really large and would hold DS' jungle gym perfectly. The landlord was very open to the idea of me having a garden (he said I have to share with him and his wife though ) and was happy to hear that we are a young couple. It is well within our budget (!!) as well. The only thing I'm NOT too happy with is the fact that if we do rent it, we're going to have to pay two house notes until we either rent this house or sell it. It is also about 400 sf. bigger than this house and with two floors should feel bigger.

We're going to take a second look at it today and if we still like it, fill out the application and pay the deposit. It's almost impossible to find affordable places to rent that aren't in a big apartment complex and with the location and price, we have to move on it immediately.
  • KO: you have NO idea how much I'd love to see that man get a good A-- beating to get some sense into him! If I thought that would help I'd have my ex or one of his bro's do it (and yes, they would)... He did something several years ago that has caused **** for my sister, including not being able to get a decent job (can't go into details)... You have NO idea how frustrating it is to have to watch her go through some of the things she does. I guess one good thing is she SAYS he's stopped beating on her!

Zeff, I'm sitting here drooling over your new prospective house!

Heather, how much does the position pay? You know I've been looking!!!!! LOL
  • Hi everyone. It has rained today but I'm going to get lots done. Cleaning, laundry, and ROACH EXTERMINATION!!!!!

    Personals in order of appearance:

Lady Nessa, have fun at work.

Pearlrose, have a good day at work.

Loriann, take care of that back. And kitty sounds adorable.

KO, hehe, sorry to hear about your dinner! Cats are insane but I love 'em.

Pacergal, I hope everything's okay with your job.

    Gonnabe165, congrats on the loss!

Hcmacneil, have fun at the tournament. What is koogle?

Zeffryn, happy birthday to DH. Laughed out loud about this: "Also, I need to get to Best Buy for typical man gifts - video games. My DH's birthday list looks like a 15 year old's." Ah, men. All the ones I know (adult men) want xbox 360s so I know what you mean.

Loriann again, oh men like that really make me angry! And Zeff the new prospective place sounds really cool.

Everyone who hasn't posted yet, have a wonderful Tuesday!

Well, I've got roach balls to make to throw under the fridge and in cabinets (trying to get rid of these pesky things for good!), DOOL to watch at 1pm, dishes to wash and counters and floors to clean. I'm just going to hang out awhile with some coffee to perk me up first, watch my soap and then get going. Since I'm putting it off until 2, I've got some time to relax. Have a good day everyone.
  • Mel: Those things are almost impossible to get rid of. Thank God I've not had to deal with them in my adulthood, but my DS has, and my mother did when we were growing up... research, I truly doubt a few "roach balls" are going to cut it! I believe you have to fumagate! AND it means washing all clothes, as just one egg dropped somewhere, like on y our shoe, will cause them to come back with a vengeance!
  • I took some Advil earlier and the tooth that had the crown removed (and is infected) is feeling better. I can't get in to see the endodontist this week and next week would be right after the upgrade so I'm waiting until the 15th. I'm postponing the decision on what to do with the other crown until after I see how much this costs. It looks like insurance won't pay for the other one as it isn't 7 years old so I might ask my dentist if there is any way to just repair it. From the xray he showed me I doubt it.

Robert called last night to make sure Brian got the message about where he is. I looked it up today and it is a nursing home rather than a hospital. I think we will visit tomorrow even though that means he doesn't get to sell popcorn. There wouldn't be time today before his patrol meeting (unless I get off work early - maybe I'll try that).
  • Mel - Koogle (actually spelled Kugel) is a dish I have had from my Jewish friends that is like a custard noodle bake. It can be sweet often has rasins in it. It's made most of the time from egg noodles but can also be made w/ potatoes as well.

a few years back we had friends who were homeless stay with us for two weeks.

it took me a year of twice daily spraying (a can a day half in the morning half at bedtime) to get rid of the damn roaches.
  • kugel... was NEVER one of my favorite foods. not sweet or savory unless it's potato kugel. i just never liked noodle kugel. now Kishka is yummy.
  • Loriann, I agree with you completely that it's nearly impossible to get rid of those nasty creatures. We have fumigated 3 times and what happened was, when we came back in the house they just all lay stunned on the floor! They lived through it!! Ick! I keep hearing about boric acid and how it's one of the most effective roach killers, because not only will they ingest it, but it will get on their bodies and they carry it back to their homes, poisoning the others, plus when they die the other roaches will eat their bodies and die too. There's a recipe for roach balls using flour, sugar to attact them, mixed with boric acid. I'm going to try it at least because we bought Roach Pruf boric acid and it was on the expensive side. I'm very wary of spraying poisons in here because of DS and the kitties so the I'm gonna try the balls.

Unfortunately, these things were already here when we moved in. The landlord's daughter used to live here and she has since moved in next door. She told me they could never get rid of them.. Here's hoping that we will! I've never lived in a place with roaches before.

Barb, good luck with the tooth! Have fun with the visit, hope he is in a happy and non-combative mood.

Hcmacneil, that dish sounds really interesting. I never would have imagined a sweet dish made with noodles!
  • I love Potato Kugel and Kishka and (pardon my spelling) chulent
I'll be going to Nessa's now!
  • So what is Kishka? Sounds interesting.

Anyway, DOOL time! Then cleaning time! Have fun everyone.
  • Melanie as far as roaches go especially a german roach they are hard to deal with. i worked for a pest control co for 5 years and my dh has been in the business for many many years - they come in from all areas and they mulitply real fast. few suggestions leave no dirty dishes, no paper bags magazines or piles of paper laying around seal up doors and windows and tell your landlord he needs to have a company treat both places if you ever want to get a "healthy" handle on them
  • Well the day is looking much more promising, thank goodness, things are finally moving. This is a normal trend for us, but everything going on just makes you a little anxious when things start to stall out. Looks like I have 2 closings coming up before the end of the week.

Since we are on a pet kick around here I thought I would share a pic I took of my fur kid the other night, yeah he could stand some 3FC intervention but he is cute none the less. Everyone meet Reggie, Reggie, Everyone.
