  • There's a book called The Abs Diet (and another called The Abs Diet for Women) -- check your local library. Basically the gist is low carb, low carb, and then lower carb. You still can't spot-reduce, but I know people who've gotten results with the diet recommended in the book.
  • Now I don't know anything about this firsthand, since I am still very large, but it is a great concern to me, since I know that when I do lose some weight, this extra flab and skin is going to be there. I did read in a few places that time is what tightens these areas up, is keeping the weight off for a few years and keeping up with the exercise routine.
  • When I'd lost 90 pounds and was about 160, I still had most of my weight in my stomach. It has to be those last 20-30 pounds that go from your stomach. It does depend on genes sometimes. My sister's baby is real active, and doesn't eat a bunch, but she has that tummy. Stomach fat is the hardest to lose, I think. It also might be lose skin if you've lost a lot. That's how it is for my sister (lose skin).

But I also believe if you work at it then you will see results. Can't hurt to try? And time will be kind if you keep working at it.

    Keep up the good work!!
  • I am going to be in this boat but with a larger sail. I am looking at losing 200 pounds altogether and just am resigned to looking like a human basset hound. If someone dies and leaves me cash, I will get it removed, or I can lay on the kitchen table and have my wanna-be emt daughter cut off the extra like a paper doll pattern and sew my edges up.

Hehe... all kids have that tummy up until about age 5, it's the way they're built. They're born with it and it doesn't go away for a long while. It has nothing to do with what they do or don't eat.

I think that if you're genetically predisposed to carry weight in your midsection then you will eventually lose it there but it will maybe take longer than you like. Me, I carry my weight in my hips. Trust me, it's no easier to shop for clothes. I find jeans that fit in the hips and will literally have a 6-8 inch gap in the waist... no one is perfect. We just have to work with what we've got!
  • Gah.. same question here.

I went from 155->128 ... and still had a belly ... I think I have to reduce all the way back to 105-110 to really get rid of it. If even then. Now I am back way higher even than 155 and well, belly is bigger proportionally. At least it doesn't sag - stays rounded (knock on wood)

However, I do know it will be much much smaller at those weights (if I can even manage 105 again...) I just wear a lot of A-line skirts and realize I don't have a bikini body and I'm pretty okay with it.

I have heard that eating a lot of fiber can also help to flatten a round belly if you're in the healthy body fat range. And colonics too, but i haven't tried them and really don't know if I ever will :P
  • Okay everybody . . . if you haven't already found it, here's a link to a very interesting thread in the Maintainers Forum that you should read . . . http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36040
  • I'm around 163 and that still happens to me when I sit down
