  • I just checked the package when I got home. 1 container has 340 calories and 2 servings - so, 170 for a single serving! Pretty comparable to the 160 of the frozen stuff.
  • Hi everyone. You have inspired me. I live 10 min from two different TJs. I will take notes and head on over there.
    Thanks
  • I love their turkey meatloaf. I get that every once in a while. Other than that, I don't really like going there that much, haven't found it particularly helpful with low carb diets. I hunt and peck at my local mainstream and ethnic markets!

Well, I've definitely been known to refuse to buy a product because of 10 extra calories , but it's turns out I'm not being quite so here. I figured out why I thought they were so high in calories. The packages sold at my Trader Joe's are labeled as just a single serving. It's still 340 calories, but I took them at their word that it was just enough rice for one. But if it's enough for two people, that's much more doable. I picked up a package and I think we're going to try it tomorrow with some of Trader Joe's Chicken Asada.
  • Wow I've only been once (it's a bit of a drive for me) and was so annoyed by all the crazy children and yuppies running around that I didn't give it a fair shake. We have another location that's about as far for me. With all the yummy stuff you guys suggested I'm going to have to go back!
  • We have one coming to Nashville in November! I like visiting Trader Joes in other cities when I visit friends - so far I've been to ones in Seattle, Phoenix, Madison, Philadelphia, and New York City.

    Things I have liked:
--their sushi comes in variety packs, good for people like me who aren't brave with sushi but want to give it a try
--It is the only place I have found beluga lentils - and they are pre-cooked!
--Their vodka sauce was so good, my mom used up all of mine when I brought a jar back from Phoenix
--The spanakopita in the frozen aisle. I found this at Whole Foods too, but it is so much more expensive! So much easier to heat 1 piece up than to try and make it myself.
--The veggie burgers with the Indian spices, yum!
--I really like their chicken and veggie stock 1 serving packets; no MSG and very manageable individual size packaging unlike what I find at the regular supermarket

I'm sure when they come to Nashville, I'm going to find lots more items to love! Until then, I'll be in NYC this weekend and I'm looking forward to hitting up Trader Joes and stocking my boyfriend's apartment with their stuff!
  • Fat Chick Be Gone, I have to agree with you about the yuppies and kids. People in TJ's are particularly rude and obnoxious. And the fact that the stores are so small and crowded makes it really bad. The staff, on the other hand, are extremely helpful and pleasant.

    I especially like:

    Lite goat cheese
    Fat Free Merengue cookies
    Dark chocolate of different sorts
Greek yogurt, both Fage and the house brand
A sprout mix in the produce dept. Includes radish sprouts
    Celtic reduced fat cheddar cheese
Roasted red peppers in a jar
Raw, unsalted seeds, nuts and dried fruit
    FF Balsamic vinaigrette
    FF Soy sesame ginger dressing
    LF parmesan ranch dressing
    LF raspberry vinaigrette

I am sure there are others, but these are the ones I can think of right now. Have fun!
