  • I haven't been able to do anything outside since about the end of September. For the last three days it's been between -50F and -60F; I wouldn't go outside unless I had a death wish.

I purchased a treadmill in the early fall when I realized I wasn't getting outside again until April, and it is easily the greatest thing I've ever bought. I use it everyday, jogging for 30-35 minutes every second day and walking on it in between.
  • I bought a treadmill from HSN on TV. It's the greatest thing I've ever done. I walk on it while watching TV. Yesterday I did an hour. So far today I've done 55 minutes. I also check out various DVD's from the library. I do weights, too.
    Good luck!
  • I thought I'd add the big ball to mix things up a bit I was rolling on it yesterday just fooling around and my long hair got caught underneath it. (OUCH) then I was doing a few other things and finally my 13 year old daughter said "MOM get off that before you hurt yourself!"

I just started my couch to 5k training and have been walking on the treadmill.

I'd like to add swiming & water aerboics back in but it's just too cold to go outside after being in the pool
  • ~Strength train 3x a week

~Middle Eastern Dance (I teach classes, private lessons, and perform/rehearse) and this can vary anywhere from 3 hours a week...all the way up to 10 hours a week on particular occasions.

    ~treadmill or outdoor walking/jogging-3 or 4 days a week

Occasionally I will do something else, such as yoga or Pilates to change it up. It is mainly the strength, dance, and walking/jogging, though.
  • I have a weekly routine that I try to mix up:

Monday is Jillians frontside DVD (right now just beginner version)
    Tuesday is kettlebells and karate
Wednesday is cardio (either Jillians Cardio Kick, or Kathy Smith Aerobox)
    Thursday is Jillians backside DVD
Friday is kettlebells and more karate
    Saturday is cardio
    Sunday is rest

The Jillians DVDs seem to have a good cardio and weight training mix so I'll stick with them for awhile.

Kettlebells are excellent weight training tools. You can get a cheaper version of kettlebell at power-systems.com. They have really good intro manuals on it as well. I'm working with the 25 pound version.

oh...and I'm going to add in mini trampoline for cardio on those days when I'm bored with Jillian or Kathy Smith...
  • I have a mini trampoline and use it for cardio the days I don't make it into the gym. I have an elliptical at home too but the only place it fits is in the basement and there's no TV down there so I do the trampoline instead so I can keep myself entertained.
  • I walk. Let me just say that long johns and yak traxs are my best friends right now! Not as cold as Minnesota though. It's been around 0 degrees F, but not colder yet. There's lots of ice, but like I said yak traxs...
  • I'd be interested in a mini tramp, too. I've casually looked around for one but I would need one that I could put together by myself and preferably folds up. Any recommendations?

I mostly do indoor walking and jogging, dancing. I have an inflatable punching bag which is fun. And I have the Total Body Trainer by Jake. I have the ball but I wasn't using it much so I deflated it.
  • Really if your floors are solid it doesnt make alot of noise and its pretty steady. My daughter had a curio cabnet filled with figurine and they dont even shake. My son was always in the basement and never complained about it making noise. HIs weight system sure did make alot of noise...if i get bored with the trampline I can always go down and use his weigh system. Maybe in a few weeks I will add it in a few days a week.
  • I do everyday 1/2 an hour - an hour on my mni tramp jogging, jumping and running. I also am trying to incorporate turbo jams strength training but its hard with the baby around (I use the trampoline in my bdrm ( no tv )during naps
