  • Thank you guys so much for all of the advice. I love nuts too..But I am scared to keep them in the house because it is so easy to just eat and eat and eat on them.

I really need to keep more fresh fruits and veggies in the house..but I am the only one who eats them and many times they go bad before I get a chance to eat them all. And since I am on a budget it kills me to waste food LOL. I am going to try an incorporate more though, because aphil is right. It is about being healthy..not just thinner.
  • To avoid waste, I normally buy enough fres fruit/veggies to last 3-4 days-things that go bad quickly like bananas, fresh berries, etc. and then I buy a couple things that have a longer shelf life for the end of the week-like a bag of baby carrots, canned pineapple in juice, frozen veggies, etc. I eat the stuff that goes bad quickly first...then on to the other items.

It helps me to keep produce in the house, and to avoid so much waste. Maybe it can help you?

I usually buy the small single serve pouches OR if I bought a big jar, can...I'll measure it out as soon as I open the container and place ONE serving into ziplock bags.....that way if I'm hungry or on the go, its already to eat...no mindles munching on a whole jar!!
  • I keep nuts in the freezer. They last longer that way and I dont mindlessly open the freezer, bend down to the bottom shelf, undo the twisty bag, grab 3-4, etc.

Also if you have a hard time with produce going bad, blueberries are especially good frozen, I only buy fresh berries in local season, frozen are cheaper too.

Grapes freeze really well and get really supersweet when you freeze them. I buy grapes and split out what I can eat in a week and then freeze the rest for "candy"

Avocado is another great source of healthy fat. Slice it on salad, into omelet or use instead of mayo. The good thing about an avocado is you dont usually mindlessly munch on avocado.
  • Oh I love grapes. I had no idea they could be frozen. I usually do have a freezer full of frozen blueberries but my grandma's blueberry bushes didn't make this year.
  • Another one that is great frozen-bananas! Unpeel the banana, and wrap it in aluminum foil. Place in the freezer overnight. They are FABULOUS, and great for ice cream cravings, because they are sweet, and stay creamy.

dont thaw the grapes before eating them, eat them frozen, I think they get mushy if you thaw them
  • Sounds tasty!
