  • I use ground turkey for tacos too--once you add the seasoning its only a little different

meatloaf--well gr turkey only comes in 1.25 lb packages so thats a loaf ...most of the recipes say a loaf is 4 servings but that would be a truly enormous serving --a really nice size slice is about 1/8 of a loaf, and sometimes if I am really hungry maybe I'll do 1/6th.

Jennie O sells 15% fat (70% cals - barely better than beef) ; lean -7% fat (50% cals - this is the default for fitday), and extra lean -99% fat free (8% cals). If you use the extra lean one, use real eggs or add a bit of olive oil, it can be too dry for meatloaf, but its fine for tacos or other recipes where you brown the meat.
  • Hi, I'm not sure what "other forum" to post my bio and introduction so I'll post a quick one here...

My starting weight was 229 (5 mos. ago) but I'm at 180 as of this morning.
I want to get down to 135 (well, 120 honestly)
I'm going for about 1400 calories a day and will be writing down my intake daily.
As for excercise, I have been doing cardio daily coupled with weight training every other. Sundays are my day off from excercise and I usually weigh and measure myself every Mon. or Tues.

So far so good for the day. I did my morning workouts what with the 20 mins. of cardio and upper body weight training. I'll do 20 more mins. of cardio and lower body tonight. WOOT!
  • Hey guys!

Ok Mande. SOunds cool! Yeah it is marketed as the low carb one. AND it already has more protein in it!!! My can says 20 grams of protein! So maybe if you get that even though it may cost a bit more it will still be alot cheaper than buying additional protein powder!!!
Yep! I'm going to look in to the various ones they have in Cold Lake. Our town is pretty small, so I'm surprised I found a grocery store carrying it at all, . We have a population of about 5600 here . All they had was the Optima here.

Adding fruit is great! Oh I need to look for the calcium link. Ladies, make sure you are getting enough daily calcium! Not only to prevent boneloss etc but I just read a week or so ago that they did a study on women who had more calcium vs. women who didn't and the women lost a LOT more belly fat!!! than the other women!! I'll go get the link!!
I heard about that. I tried to get more information on it, but couldn't find it. They fed the ladies yogurt, and although yogurt has Calcium, it also has a lot of other good things, like bacteria culture. I'd really like to see the refined details of that research to see exactly what their findings were when they looked at it more closely. But getting a good amount of Calcium in is a really good thing. And ladies, if you are taking a Calcium supplement, make sure you are taking one with Magnesium! Or else your body won't be able to absorb all the Calcium you are taking in!

Also think about how much of the food you eat. I avoid HFCS for the most part, but there is a big difference between the teaspoon of catsup on my bocaburger and a soda in how it will impact, even though they both have hfcs
I agree with you there. It is so darned hard to avoid HFCS though! I've been watching my ingredients, but finding it in sooo many things! We should start a boycott against HFCS added to foods!!

I know what you mean! I partake in some goodness, but I only try to sample a little of this, and a little of that. I also bring snacks in my purse to munch on to keep my mouth busy Celery is great because it's virtually like water!

Happy to report that my son took 34 steps. I need to go shovel a path for him to get off the bus now. Wheelchairs and snow don't get along.
Congratulations That is awsome!! And shoveling snow (as much as we hate it) is a great way to burn a lot of calories!

So why are people going to so many holiday parties? Are these office parties or what?
When DF and I worked apart, that made for 2 office parties. Then 2 more parties for each of our families, then various parties that each of our friends were throwing. That can work out to be ALOT of parties hahaha. But since we work together now, it has eliminated atleast 1 party hehe.

Having worked in the grocery industry for 10 years let me just say the biggest way to save money is to make sure you are shopping at the right store. It may be the same chain of store, but every store has different prices based on the income of the shoppers in the area of town. For example in HEB in Houston one store can have milk for $3.29 a gallon and a store five miles down the road can have milk at $2.79 a gallon. This goes with all items in the store. Also make sure you that you are checking your reciepts especially on the day that the new add comes out. There are thousands of prices to change and there are some that do not get change and some of them are on the ad specials. See if your store will honor competitor ads as well and this will save you time. At HEB we would lower our price to match any competitor. Just a few ideas.
Those are some really great tips! I'm one of those people that will remember an item I picked up that advertised a sale, and when everything is being rung through, I watch, hehe. A bit annoying for the cashier's, I'm sure, but usually I will only have picked it up because it was on sale in the first place.

I have also heard the same thing as Jasmine no more than 3-4 grams of sugar per serving. I have even to heard to limit yourself to 3 fruits a day because of all the sugar. I don't listen to that advice and eat all the fruit I want.
Ditto. The only limit that I set to my fruits/veggies is that I eat all my fruits before noon, and all my veggies after. My body just feels better that way. If I have too much sugar later on in the day, I feel gross all evening/night.

I like to eat the chicken breast with no cheese, and LF Honey Mustard. MMMmmmMMmm!

good morning everyone i was wondering if anyone heard that low calorie or llow/no sugar is better than low fat? what are you guys thoughts on that because i have been getting reduced fat and low fat items but now to find out it can loaded with sugar kind of makes me wonder
I tend to lean more to Low Cal. And I watch the nutritional information so that it's not too loaded with Sodium. Low Cal things usually have low sugar/low fat, but are pumped up in Sodium. Gotta watch that! As you get used to it, I promise it will get easier

Does anyone know WHY corn was mentioned as a sidekick superfood? I have been saving corn as a "treat" and not making it part of my staples. Now I read the superfood thread and it is supposed to be a superfood. What is wrong with corn tortillas again? uugghhhhh
I have no idea. Food balance can be so confusing sometimes! . I generally eat corn about twice a week when I'm serving poultry to the whole house

Ooooh speaking of comfort foods - meatloaf. I never liked meatloaf as a kid, but I LOVE meatloaf now. Made with lowfat ground turkey, a serving is ENORMOUS. When you just feel the need to feel REALLY full - that is a great entree. Instead of covering the top with catsup I do a mix of no-sugar spaghetti sauce, catsup, and a little hot sauce and mmmmmmmmmm.....
    Wholy Yum!!

I tried ground turkey once and didn't like it. I don't know if it was a bad batch or what. I now steer away from it. I did try the turkey burgers recently of course my husband was the first ginea pig and he loved it. I did too. So maybe I will attempt ground turkey again in a meatloaf (mmmmmmm meatloaf my favorite!!).
    Lovin' the Turkey burgers!!

Woo! Remind me to NEVER get behind on personals again!
I will be right back with my update!
  • Well ladies, the holiday baking has begun!
I've decided to do everything in bite sizes this year! I made bite size star-shaped sugar cookies last night. Usually I would have about 3 normal/large cookies, but instead I had 3 bite size, they were just as good, but less! Maybe it's a mental thing. I still felt like I got my 3 cookies, but my thighs didn't!

DF is leaving town on Monday. He has to go do a project out in the field that will keep him there until Friday. He'll drive home Friday (takes most of the day), have Saturday with me, then drive back on Sunday, then come home the following Friday.

That's half the month by myself !
I keep telling myself that it'll give me a chance to relax, get some really heavy duty cleaning done, and not have to worry about making dinners that I can't eat (usually I have to make 2 separate dinners).

Anyway, that's the news. If you guys were near me, I'd send you some bite size good times! I also found a great recipe for bran/cran muffins. I'm going to try them out! They are low cal, woo!

I went looking for Ezekiel bread all over town, and NOTHING! I had to ask 4 bakers before I got one that knew what it was, then told me no at my local grocer, haha.
Well, I'm buying a bread machine, so I'm going to bake all my own breads, and just do substitutes. Atleast I know it won't have a lot of bad preservatives in it!

That's all for now, going to go drop off cookies at MIL so they can enjoy them, too Then going to pick up a couple paintings (cheap ones!) for my place. The walls are so bare! We've only lived here since the end of September, and I want to make it pretty! My colour theme is wine and gold (not just for Christmas, haha.). Can you tell what my favorite colour scheme is?! LOL

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
  • Martini~I wish I was into baking. I love the smells, but I hate the work. I am going to try and do some easy things to give as gifts this year. I am thinking of making the No-Bake cheesecake and Chocolate pies to give to my family members, They are easy and loved by almost everyone.

Betty Crocker makes these FABULOUS premixed cookie mixes in all kinds of flavours and styles. All you usually have to do is add the egg, water, and/or butter (I use ICBINB). They're pretty cheap, and are delicious. They even make oatmeal!

MmmmMm Chocolate Pie. Haha, I wish I had the will power to make one of those and not eat it! LOL

  • Wow, martiniforme. You are a fast walker on the treadmill. i'm at a slow run at 4.5. I usually walk at 3.0-3.7. i just get too tired at that speed. I have been slowly moving it up though. I guess it will take a little while since I have been so sedentary. You are an inspiration!! Keep up the great work!!
  • ty for the links martini, I finally got them posted.

I didn't do tooo badly today, I got my workout in this morning, but skipped my afternoon one due to time restraints with family issues. Plus I've been getting a pain in my left side that flairs up if I bend a certain way and it's been getting worse. I need to make a trip to the Dr., just to make sure it's ok, it's been there for a month now and has been increasing a bit.
  • Calejo

" I've been getting a pain in my left side that flairs up if I bend a certain way "

I'm sorry about your pain in your left side. I have had bone problems for some time. I have broken my feet several times. I have had trouble with my hip also on and off. They could never figure out why. I'm going for a bone density test on monday. We shall see... Makes walking more difficult though. I hope you feel better!!
  • good luck to you!
  • Good Morning Everyone I went to my two holiday parties yesterday and I did okay. I did eat some things that I try to stay away from like dip which is HUGE for me. But I ate a lot of carrots, celery, and broccoli with the dip. I'm guessing my calories to be 1800-2000 yesterday? The wine party was family style and they passed each bowl around. Psychologically that's hard because I feel obligated to take some. Still just one spoon of each. Could have been a lot worse. Not weighing myself for a couple of days.

Today our town has a festival of trees and we are putting up a christmas tree this year. We decorate, the choir plays, and then santa arrives on the fire truck. Then there is the big lighting ceremony. It really is a good time. Only store bought cookies available so I should be okay. Not a big trigger for me.

Calejo I hope you have that pain looked at. Better to catch it in its early stages.

Martiniforme You are not by yourself. Walking 4.5 mph? I can't get over 3.5 mph and still breath! Great job!
  • yeah I can run forever, but I cant walk that fast..it hurts my legs. 4.5 is kind of the "dead zone" for me too fast to walk, too slow to run.
