Happy Birthday one day late.

I don't think I have ever introduced myself. I'm 51 and have two daughters. The oldest one is pregnant with her second baby. I have only one granddaughter. The youngest daughter is 22 and still lives at home.

We live in Oklahoma City where the weather has been mild compared to so many of you. My husband and I are both CPAs and I work for him in his office about 2 1/2 miles from our house.

If I had 3 wishes, it would be good health for my family and friends, prosperity for my church, and for my youngest daughter to stop being agnostic. If you gave me one more wish, I'd wish to be as rich as Bill Gates.

Yes, Msfez, that is certainly true. Yesterday was a much better day. I had a nice veggie lasagna and salad for dinner last night and I think the three starches worth of pasta was just about right for me. I had some fruit and yogurt at bedtime instead of a heavier carb and managed a 3.8 (68) at 8:00 am. A little low but not shaky-low.

I'm new around here and this is actually my first post... I'm a type II diabetic...my blood sugars are under control. I have been frustrated with the weight loss though for a while because some of the meds I was on for the diabetes had the side affect of WEIGHT GAIN!! UGGGG...but then in October, my doc took me off those and put me on a new one that has the side affect of decreased appetite and weight loss!! woohoo!!! I've actually lost 30 pounds since then!!! Looking forward to getting to know y'all better!

Hello Everybody I just stopped by on the way to the recliner. Had a rousing day of washing and ironing and am ready to park it for the evening. My usually under control blood sugar went up to 220 due to an unscheduled frozen cream cheese fudge fit. I keep sugar free fudge I make in the freezer so I have something I can eat when I make regular deserts for my family. I keep it in the freezer to keep me out of it. It usually works but I got a magazing, saw a recipe for these chocolate carmel brownies...and went completely out of my mind! Oooo Meowee, Happy pasta day to you. I love veggie lasagna. Wow. I've been MIA for awhile and the posts are popping. Thanks for all the birthday wishes.l Happy Belated Mutual Birthday to Meowee. I celebrated mine by going off my fast. Had a Mexican lunch on Saturday and a nice dinner with champagne (nectar of the gods) in the evening. Well, I binged a bit yesterday and layed around all day because it was raining and I didn't want to go out. I was bad also today. Sigh. I have to weigh in tomorrow night at the clinic and I know it's going to be bad. But now that the birthday madness and all the tension leading up to it is past, I think I can get back on the program.
to msfez, reba and renya. This is a good place to share. One of you mentioned nausea. I get it sometimes. Usually when my sugar is high. It helps to eat something.
Saw the endocrinologist last week. I am having high morning blood sugars (180-200) even though my A1c is 5.7. I don't want to go back on Actos because that will make me gain weight, so I'm increasing the Glucophage to 2000 mg a day. If I get back on the fast, the sugar will go down.

Morning everyone its so sunny out today that it hurts your eyes.. .. i love it.. but still cold..rosetta am happy to see u post.. sry for the morning highs..mine used to do that to and would stay that way now i take glybezide in the am along with glucophage in the evening and my sl have come down to around 104 and stays there thru the day.. in fact nite before last i didnt eat a snack before bed and woke up feeling just awful.. sl to low so had to eat in the middle of the nite here all my life i fought my weight and food issues and now i have to eat..go figure..this is a weird to handle disease at times but im doing it..so maybe glybezide(sp?) would work for u and a plus is it decreases your appetite.. at least it did mine..and a little indulgence on your b-day is ok..youll get back to what works for you..so how are the rest of you today?.. i need to clean up the crafty fluffs and do housework today i hate that but someones gotta do it "sigh"..i guess that would be me..if i was wealthy id hire a house keeper but then id probably clean before the housekeeper came so things wouldnt look so bad ((((((((((hugs))))))))) rosey

I'm on glyburide, metformin, actos and insulin lente at night. Nothing had much of an effect on weight for me until the insulin. Boy does that pack it on, especially around the middle. Oh well, more places to stick the needle

Well, Rosetta, looks like our siggies are back again. Congratuations on that great 5.7 A1C. Sounds to me like those morning highs could be a result of a middle of the night hypo that doesn't wake you up. Your liver says "well, I guess she isn't going to fix this, so I'll have to" and gives you a shot of its stored glucose to keep you going. Unfortunately, as usual, Mr. Liver aims too high.

I'm with you, Glen . . . my BS tend to be up and down throughout the day, ranging from 4-5 (70-80) in the morning to 9-10 (170-180) in the evening. Wish I could keep it more level.

You are one of the lucky ones, Rosey, staying level at about 110 (5.5) is great. Wish I could do it. Don't forget your bedtime snack though because those hypos in the middle of the night are not a lot of fun. Not to mention that they tend to throw the whole day out of kilter.

Thank you for all the welcomes! It was an absoluletly gorgeous sunny warm day- in the 70's! here in LA (Lower Alabama ) It's been an ok day- though I did have some chocolate... got in some exercise with water aerobics and walking... 90 minutes in all...

When I was on actos, glucotrol, and glucophage I gained weight...it was the actos that put it on for me... I gained in spite of basically sticking to 1600 cal a day...(My HgbA1C was in a normal range 4.5 to 5.5 for the last 3 or 4 years.) last june, FDA approved Byetta- it's an injection, but not insulin. My doctor put me on it in October... it has some tough side affects, especially at first... didn't know if I was going to handle the nausea and GERD type systems...but it has gotten better... I learned to eat some protein after the injections in addition to carbs... and if I eat too much, I'll get sick... have to be careful to eat enough so that blood sugars don't drop too low... I've had a few episodes of blood sugars in the 40's and 50's... but i've learned to watch for that more closely...that had not happened with the other meds....

reba when you start feeling light headed means it's time eat something. one way to help that is eat a snack (healthy of coarce). incorpoarate the snacks into your meal plan. glen

Hi Gang . . . Cold, but sunny today in Nova Scotia . . . Overall, I'd have to say March came in like the proverbial "lamb". Even a little light fluffly lambswool falling out of the sky for a little while but nothing exciting. Unfortuntely, this could mean we are in for a nasty March.

Oh, Glen, I hope that regular syrup didn't do you in too badly. I was pretty good . . . 3 pancakes and 1/2 cup of EDSmith, sugar-free syrup . . . I was expecting I'd want more, but I didn't. Probably because the SF syrup is really nothing to get too excited about. Doesn't taste like maple syrup but at least it "looks" like you are eating the same stuff as everyone else.

Thanks for the information about byetta, Reba. I've never even heard of it. Of course, it could be years before it gets approved in Canada and even then it could be under a different name. Do you know what the actual chemical name is?

Wonder where everyone else is today? It seems very quiet in here. Anyway, we'll see you tomorrow and in the meantime, keep on fighting the good fight.
