1 - Have you noticed any difference in rate of weight loss between now and the first time?
I am particularly interested in those of you who followed IP strictly the first time including using only IP products and have now incorporated alternatives in but continue to follow strict phase 1 protocol.
Slower second time around here. I was pretty strict IP-brand for five of my 10 months on P1 the first round. Medical issues have been my nemesis, as well.

The 2nd time slowness is a well documented phenomenon in low carb circles & isn't related to IP-brand vs alts. Even Dr. Atkins called the first time the "golden opportunity".

Since it's all "hard" anyway (losing, maintaining, being fat), I let go of the speed of losses a long time ago. Otherwise, I'll just drive myself crazy.

Interesting...I am going to research that - thanks for the insight. I wonder if length of time between matters.

Lisa, are you being more careful about macro balance and making sure you get the nutrients you need to maintain good health, rather than focusing on products that guarantee you loss, though?

I find that if I follow the IP protocol exactly I can lose, but if I try to round the macros out for a better overall picture of nutrients I can still lose but a lot slower. Wondered if you had noticed any connection with your second time on the protocol and any changes you had made to how you eat.

I find myself falling back into bad snacking habits and always found strength in numbers on this forum, so I won't be "100% Phase 1 IP compliant" I am shooting for a Phase 3 alternative products routine using real foods in lieu of the products.

Anyways, look for me to be more regular on the boards starting tomorrow. I am also going to start logging my foods onto myfitnesspal and reposting on the "What Are You Eating" threads. Accountability!!! I need y'all in my corner!!!!
Liz, will you be using the same ID on MFP? There's a growing group of 3FC IPers over there, many of us with the same names as here. Come join the crowd.
  • Ro22The first time I lost strictly using IP products and followed 100% on program. Lost about 95lbs in 7 months. This time I used all alternative products but strictly followed IP P1 protocol. I lost 50lbs in 4 months and seem to have lost it in all the same places as before. I am in the same size clothing as before at this weight. I have changed my goal this time because I felt it was too difficult to maintain and I looked a little too thin at my original goal. Since I haven't been using a coach this time around I do not know if my lean mass is the same, but have worked real hard at keeping my protein level higher so as not to lose that. I know that a lot of people have said it was a slower loss this time around, but I really don't think it was for me.
NOW…the challenge of learning to keep it off begins!

This is really, really great Lori, what a great success for you - both times -… thank you for sharing.
  • Hi,

I haven't had a second weigh in yet so can't comment.

I do know that with my scale I have only lost 2 pounds in 4 days which is not good. Indicating it is slower now. Am comparing it to my weight using the clinic's scale so who knows.

    Blah
  • Lori T,
CONGRATS!!!!! you are awesome. thats truly an amazing accomplishment, BE PROUD!

    RO22,

I have been losing much slower this time. I have followed IP protocol both times, I actually cheated more the first time with a few bites here and there, and I still lost faster. I know it will be really hard the second time, I maintained for almost two yearsm so I did well. I have used IP products and alternatives and theres no difference in my weight loss, just my wallet.

Let me know if you have any other ?s, I am here
  • I wont lie...I am struggling allot more this time, its almost like I dont want it bad enough? If that even makes sense. I almost derailed myself last night and ate brownies, and I was really craving pizza so badly I hope I can hold off on the cheats until my birthday, I have a planned cheat on May 22... Hubby is taking me out to dinner in NYC and I cant resist Italian food on my birthday, but I also want to wear a tight dress which I haven't done in a long time, I am hoping to be around 130 by then and I can definitely wear one lol
  • day 5 and my ketostix say no ketosis. I am thinking maybe the body knows what "damage" we are trying to do this time around so its compensating somehow. hanging on to those glycogen reserves much tighter this time around. I seriously have NOT cheated BUT have had one restricted item per day. That is the only way I have been able not to cheat. I adjusted my vegetable intake since I am doing the restricted per day. Its also the week before TOM so maybe that is why. Regardless, went for a hard walk around the neighborhood to get the dang body using some energy.

I know I am feeling better, as in not brain dead, not grumpy, did the walk just fine... so whatever... we shall see on Monday when I have the official weigh in.
  • I have a similar name on MFP, actually got on it last year from a work group. I had started to do well and was down 10lb to 155lb, then holidays hit and I exploded after that. Still doing good workouts, but really need to clamp down and be accountable and mindful of my food.

Signing off for the night. I have my long run tomorrow at 6am.
  • What an awesome thread!

I started my reboot on March 8th...being 100% compliant until last Sunday. I went off plan hard core with so much going on...lots of kid activities last weekend, a major family blowout, and then hiring my replacement at work (I'm going part time)...all took an emotional toll. Each day this week I was going to hop on plan, but I rationalized some reason to go off each day. Grrr!!

So if you don't mind, I'd love to check in with you each day to hold myself accountable. Tomorrow is day one...and I am prepared!!!
  • Remember that each day is a new day and it is never too late to try again. We all have been there and some of us more than we would like to admit! It is a marathon, not a sprint and in the long run if you don't do this for YOU, you can't be the best for those around you. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
  • My losses are pretty slow too, but I'll admit I'm not being totally 100%. But I'm ok with that. My clothes all fit well, and my inches are down even though the number on the scale is up. This P1 reboot is as much about getting back in a weight # I'm ok with mentally as it is about reminding myself about getting back in good habits and establishing a good foundation for maintenance meals moving forward - Meal 1: balanced breakfast; Meal 2: protein + veggies + a carb; Meal 3: protein + veggies + a fat.
  • I forgot to set my alarm clock this morning! My husband woke me up at 6:30am - "Weren't you supposed to go running?"...oopsy. Looks like I'm squeezing in 12-miles tomorrow morning instead, luckily there's another group going at 6am I can run with.

I'm not sure what real "group" I belong to around here, or even if I should be on the IP forum at all...I'm not exactly doing Phase 3 or Phase 4, something in between. It's more like a modified-Phase 3 to account for exercise.

Recently I just found myself slipping back into old habits and knew I needed to get some support and accountability and I always found this to be a great place. My lab has free snacks and I found myself grabbing a cracker jacks + peanuts daily, coming home early with the kids and snacking before dinner, then snacking with my husband again before bed. It. Had. To. Stop.

Anyways - baby is napping, my 4yo is on the potty (w/iPad, that could take a while)....enjoying a little quiet time!
