So, last night I made my super-dooper incredibly healthy and yummy (wheat) rotinni & “special sauce”. My daughter & her DH & lovely little six-year-old granddaughter were coming for supper. They LOVE pasta. I made a nice big salad, and had bought a freshly baked loaf of multi-grain cibatta bread. My “special sauce” is made with 93% lean ground beef – browned and well-drained – organic tomato sauce, coarsely chopped onions & green peppers, and a (drained) can of diced tomatoes. Once everything is mixed all together, the sauce has simmered for an hour or so, and I’ve added the rotinni – just five or ten minutes before we’re going to eat – I add a small, well-drained can of sliced black olives. It’s low calorie, very high fiber, etc., etc. Now, mind you, I had made this very dish over a week ago just for DH & I – and when my DD was at our house on Sunday – I had made a roast & baked sweet potatoes & veggies, etc. – she took a plastic container of leftover rotinni out of the fridge and ooohed and aaaahed over it. So, I thought that would be a perfect mid-week supper for everyone, right?
Well, not exactly. DH & I loved it. Nobody else did. DD says, Is this wheat pasta??? (Like wheat pasta is something terrible). YES! It’s wheat pasta! And the leftovers you had on Sunday were WHEAT pasta! Your mother has switched to healthy eating, remember????? “OH, I know,” she says, “but we haven’t.” Now, mind you, she wasn’t nasty about it, and she and her DH both thanked me profusely for cooking, etc., etc., but clearly they didn’t much enjoy their supper. Frankly, I felt a little sabotaged. So, am I being overly-sensitive, or do you think my DD feels a little threatened that her old mum is out riding bikes, eating healthy foods, and losing weight? Maybe she LIKED me with a comfy, grandmotherly lap???
Okay. Paula? How was Red Hat night? I haven’t seen you post this morning yet, so it looks like you & your ladies were doing some SERIOUS partying, eh?
Mickey/Wanda – I’m going to post my chili recipe one day soon; then you can see what you think.
Lynn …if you ever get up to Massachusetts, you might want to check out the DeCordova. I make sure to get there at least once every year, myself. http://www.decordova.org/
Phyllis, congrats on the new hairdo. My DD2 gave me a gift certificate to my fave hair salon/spa for my b’day. She MAY have been hinting that it’s time mine got shaped up. She might be right if that’s the case.
Jay? How’s bootcamp going? Of COURSE I’ll help you with your blog…
Moxie, one hour of exercise a day seems pretty darned good to me. I’ve been bike riding
every OTHER day for 30 minutes, and in between do my trimrider, but that’s only a few minutes. I’m seeing some difference, though, so you folks who are exercising way more than me must be really dropping those inches!
Karen, I’m glad those customers of your DH’s are showing some loyalty. If they’re all threatening to pull their business, he may be getting a call-back from his old job. I say, if that happens, tell ‘em he needs a few months to think about it. Let THEM be the ones to worry about THEIR business. Of course, that’s just me. I’m kind of evil like that.
Bobbi, I went over to the “Big Y” market, practically drooling for a Flat Out. And, they didn’t HAVE them!!!! I guess that means a 15-mile drive out to the super WalMart, and if THEY don’t have them, I don’t know what I’ll do! (Cry???)
That article about plateaus, incidentally, was so right-on! Thanks for posting it!!!Cheryl, I just LOVE cargo pants, too! I had a dynamite gray pair when I was thinner that I used to wear with a gray tank top and my Teva sandals and I was jes’ so *kewl*. I hope I’ve still got them packed away somewhere – and I hope I can get down to fitting in them again!
Theresa, another Yay for being able to get off the meds! That’s a real accomplishment!
Hey Wulf & Luflic…loving your posts. Keep ‘em coming, okay?
Good luck, Nancy…just make up your mind, and the rest will follow. Can’t say it ever gets particularly easy, but it’s worth it in the end.
Send some pictures, Lyn…I see you enjoy photography, and we enjoy pictures! A perfect match, eh?
Hiya flutterby…keep on fluttering by, okay? I have two khats, too. Gotta love ‘em.
TTFN,
(Now we’ll see if I can successfully copy & paste this into 3FC)
(And if I missed anybody, it sure wasn't intentional!!!!)
Ella

on your lower numbers.
Loved your "grown and flown" comment! We have A LOT of gardeners in this group! Today I bought loofa seeds to plant! I'm thinking that it will be a lot of fun to see if I can get a bunch of nice-sized ones that we can actually USE as sponges and also some to give as presents.
Something to work towards as well.
Welcome
congrats on the 3 # loss.
and that’s the truth) and got 90% of the cleaning done by 9:30, at which time I took a quick shower, put on my “biking clothes” (Can I tell you that six months ago, if anyone had suggested that I might own “biking clothes” I would’ve laughed at them?) and did my 30-minute ride through the neighborhood. Ta-dahhh! The new, improved me!!!!
Seriously. She gave me the receipt, knowing that I would probably exchange it. I wonder why they (my kids) haven’t figured out how I dress yet.
for SIL, as he absolutely loves it and I haven’t made it for him for awhile. DH isn’t crazy about it, but will eat it, and was hungry
. I walked 6 miles this week and really watching the calorie intake. Guess my body has to level off here and hopefully drop that soon. Bobbi, I enjoyed the article you posted....I'll keep on going.
: Great news on the 3 pounds loss!
Glad that you joined us and look forward to getting to know all of you.
