Good Morning GG's,

It was a HOT weekend! It went from cool to hot to reapidly! Saturday morning I went to DGD's baseball game, but it was in the morning, before it got too bad. Afterwards we went to get the climbing rose for the side of the house, that I looked at last week. The apricot rose hadn't bloomed yet and I wanted to see what it looked like before I bought it. Decided it was just too pale an apricot, and ended up with a Don Juan. That is what I had before DH killed it, and I love the color, the scent, and the flower form. Sunday we went to watch DGD's football game. It is always fun sitting in the bleachers and hearing the opposing team talking about "the girl".

Gayle, I hope you can get in right away to get that tooth fixed. You can't go that long with your mouth sore and eating soft food. I never remember my "good" dreams either, just the bad ones.

Isabella, How did the lawn mowing go? I've never cut the grass either. It's DH's job and he would be really upset if I did it. I used to shovel the snow and use the snow blower but now that he's retired I don't do that either. Actually, I think reversing chores is a good thing. You should be able to do the things that a household requires.

Carol Sue, things in the medical field are changing every day. I hope you never need the surgery, but if you do, the way they do it could most surely change.

Mary, I think I'll write a diet book. I know what to do, and I know how to do it. I just make bad choices sometimes. It's usually for a reason, and I know while i'm doing it. I eat for pain relief. I eat out of boredom. I seldom over eat out of pure hunger.

Lynn, How was your weekend? did you have fun with your DF? How is she doing?

Bobbi, Anything new about the Condo? I love sourkraut. My my used to make the best! I make something like that, but we just call it fried krout.

Aramanth, I think it's great that you are going to do your own yard work! I used to watch my next door neighbor, who was in his 90's. He would mow so long and then take a break. I think that is smart, and his lawn was always beautiful. Isabella probably doesn't use one, but the bread machines you used to see everywhere really make pretty good bread. If you can stand the smell, and the taste of freshly baked bread in the house, You might want to look into one.

Karen, I saw an old car show this weekend and thought of you and your sister. Some beautiful cars!

Hello Goldies.
Weekends over and back to work for me. Seems I do better during the week than on weekends. That little devil is always on my shoulder on weekends tempting me. Sunday was a lazy day. We usually are busy but chose to stay in and rest.. I don't watch tv but last Sunday night I found a show called extreme weight loss makeover. They assigned a trainer and followed that person for 1 year. It was so inspiring. I watched another one last night. The lady lost 207 lbs in 1 year. Amazing!! She did 4 to 5 hours of exercise a day.
This morning I got up and decided I would increase my jogging on my mini trampoline to 30 minutes. It was hard.. Lots of sweating. The last 5 minutes about did me in.I just kept saying " I can do this". One of the things her trainer made her do was sit and get up in all 300 seats in the opera hall because she stopped going due to not being able to fit in the chairs. So I decided to give it a try this morning. I stood up and sat 20 times. "ouch" my legs were burning. I challenge everyone to try and see how many you can do. I felt so good after.. Weigh in is tomorrow morning!

Freda i know the feeling about husband killing my plants. He uses roundup and kills everything.. I think it's pretty neat for a girl to play football. Both of my boys played high school football. We loved going to the games.

Gayle hope you get your crown fixed. Temptation is so hard to resist when that devil is on your shoulder telling you to eat it. Hope you can get back

Isabella I mow the lawn every week. It's good exercise. The only this is I hate getting hot and dusty.

Bobbi your meal sounds delicious. We too have game in our freezer. I agree hunting is not cheap. Dh and I and both sons all hunt.

Good morning GG!! It is a BEAUTIFUL day here ...it is supposed to get into the low 80s!! We woke up early and went to the gym earlier than usual as our gc are coming over for a couple hours. We didn't walk the track but did the rest. I was able to up the weight on the leg press to 180!! Dh was doing well over 300 before he broke his leg and he is finally back up there now too!

Yesterday our gs (5) had something he wanted to ask me, got on the phone and then couldn't remember it or say it whichever. His mama said she thought it was that he wanted to bake cookies with me but he said that wasn't it, but that he does want to bake cookies too. So perhaps he'll tell me when he gets here. God help me with the cookies. I'm going to make them take them home!!

The Slim Me - I'm like you, I know what to do I just don't always do it. But I am getting better. These books take a little different approach and I guess that's why I like them. Sometimes I have to hear things over and over again before I get it through my thick head anyway. I think almost no one overeats out of hunger in America! For a long time I overate so consistently (for non-hunger reasons) that I didn't even know what hunger felt like! It wasn't until I did took The Lords Table Course at settingcaptivesfree.com that I learned to recognize that little whisper as one of thes books calls it. Even now it's not always easy for me but I rarely binge eat any more now, thank God.

Gayle - Sorry you have disturbing dreams. I suspect often dreams are about things we are dealing with even if they seem to be about other things. I think they help us work out problems in our minds perhaps, or at least they bring out our anxieties so we can hopefully work on them when awake. When I was younger I was afraid of driving. I had a license but rarely drove. When we moved to the west coast I even let it expire as I didn't want to drive and rarely had a car available at the time anyway. This continued for several years and I began to feel I wanted to drive again but was still scared. By this time I did have a car but I would have dreams I was driving and the car was out of control and it was scary! But the desire to drive increased and overtime those dreams turned into dreams where I was driving confidently and without problems. Sometime during this, I got my license and began to drive again. Your dreaming about the alarm clock made me think of the fact that I still dream occasionally about working as a nurse. Not as often as I did when I first retired but I do now and then...I'm always running late, have humungus amounts of work to do and am way behind. I always wake up thanking God I don't have to work anymore! LOL

Slmn11 - I like these books because of what you said...they don't tell me what to eat but help me understand why I overeat and how to deal with it. 100 Days of Weight Loss is written by an RN who has worked for over 20 years with overweight people and the If I am So Smart, Why Can't I Lose Weight is written by a weght-loss coach.

✔Cut the grass. I can cross that off my bucket list.

Well that's done and good riddance to it. DH walked around and did a great job supervising the job. I was ready to collapse on the couch when I finished. That lawn mower is not a friendly beast. My arms are sore today. I had trouble taking the husks off a couple of ears of corn as my arms were telling me to give them a rest. I guess my arms would get stronger if I cut the grass on a regular basis. It actually wasn't too bad and after a nice shower I felt quite refreshed. I'll probably have to do it a few more times before DH is up to mowing. He said he felt really strange watching me push the lawn mower and he didn't think he'd let me do that when he's well. Dear man. Maybe I'll just do it for the exercise. Hmmmm....

I had to buy a new toaster today as our old one came to an untimely death yesterday morning. I was making bread in my mixer and the thing literally jumped off the counter and hit the floor with a crash. It pulled the toaster with it and the poor thing came apart in many pieces. The mixer on the other hand has only a minor piece broken but nothing major. The new floor is sporting a couple of gouges where the mixer hit. I was standing right next to the mixer and it wasn't near the edge. I turned my back to get something or other and before I knew it there was a loud crash and I turned just in time to see the toaster dragged along to the floor. It's a really heavy Cuisinart mixer and it's never moved before and I've made bread in it many times. I can mix 3-4 loaves at one time. I'm glad it didn't land on my foot. Anyway, we had toast for supper as we had to try it out.

Gayle, your temporary crown shouldn't hurt your tongue. Go back and have the dentist file off that rough part. I'm an expert on fillings and crowns. I also have unsettling dreams but I also have lovely dreams as well. I often dream I'm driving and suddenly can't see and can't get my foot on the brake. No matter how hard I try my foot just won't move to the brake. That always wakes me up. This morning I dreamed about a man I used to work with about 25 years ago. We were at a teacher's inservice and he was eating a wrap. It was a green spinach wrap and he couldn't chew it. He just kept stuffing it in his mouth and he was choking on it but he wouldn't pull it out. It was really weird. There was more to the dream but I can't remember any of it now. This morning I was trying to figure out what brought him to mind and what spinach wraps had to do with anything. lol

Lunch & movie with JoAnn on Saturday – we went to the Marigold Hotel movie & JoAnn really seemed to like it! She laughed at the funny places. She seemed better than she has been. Her DD has her going to an adult day care center. The last couple of times I saw JoAnn, she complained bitterly about the center. Saturday, she kept telling me about a really good-looking man with beautiful white hair. I heard all about him. At one point she said “Who knows if it will come to anything.”

Rosie, if everyone were able to understand other people’s points of view (as you do), we would have a MUCH better world. We are a VERY diverse group of women, but somehow, we love and support each other. I cannot imagine anything you could say that would make me “think less of you” except when you tell me you are losing more weight ;-))

My DD had a tough time with the Lake Placid marathon. Almost had to get carried in by the Med Techs. She had not been feeling good all week and had not really practiced on any mountainous tracks. However, she finished & is still walking today.

Before my DD & son-in-law left, they bought my kitties a pirate ship. One or the other or both have been in that ship since it came into the house. See photos below.
Sunday my sister came down to stay over. I had a little wine and cheese and strawberry shortcake for 5 of the women in my condo. Everyone was nice and no one talked about “business.” This morning, we went to the hot pool at my gym for an arthritis/aerobics class. It is mostly stretching, but still gets tiring after an hour. I ended buying my sister a really pretty SOFT leather white and beige purse at Macy’s. She really loved it.

The Monet exhibit was different from what I expected. The NY Botanical Garden was MUCH bigger that I expected. In one of the conservatories, the garden that Money created at Giverny was recreated. I was surprised at the vibrancy of the flowers – his paintings are generally so pastel.

My class is almost over – last day is Thursday. I have enjoyed this class more than most. Really interesting people.

OK, I am REALLY tired out. Didn’t sleep too well last night. My sister & I stayed up to watch the Tony’s and, by then, I was overtired. I finally got to sleep around midnight & Harry woke me up at 4:30 to get his breakfast. Usually, I can get the food & get back to bed for a couple of hours more sleep, but this morning I was wide awake. I am fading now.

Hey...we did it! Ate down the freezer enough to defrost and reorganize it. Had it up and running in 3 hrs. Nothing defrosted in the coolers. Have even less meat in there than I thought. The one brown box of what I thought was Omaha Steaks hamburgers turned out to be chocolate truffles. I don't like chocolate that much why it's hiding in there...anyone want them I'll mail.

Just finished a lovely dinner, portabella mushroom cap stuffed with italian sausage and fresh asparagus sautee in olive oil and chopped garlic. 50 yrs I steamed asparagus until a friend....oh my even old dog new tricks! yum

Karen...Big question. I watched past few days the biggest eaglet was sitting on a branch out off the nest and now he's back with the rest of the kids???? Did you see him go either way? Did he hop or fly? There is a big diff between 1st hatch and last hatched.

It is blazing hot and humid down here. Suspect that probably helped defrosting(in the garage). Pool temp jumped 3 degrees since yesterday. Pool is on for tomorrow. Bridge partner was still sick so stayed home today.

Started another BBC series. Ahhhh sweet show. "Ballykissangel". Now I need a ticket not only to England but Ireland ,too. Pretty pretty world out there. Have all 6 series so there is some serious watching to do.

I am not being compulsive about the freezer. 5 years ago we lost power for 8 days and I shoveled 6 black garage bags of rotting junk out of the freezer. It was stuff that nightmares are made off. I have 12 1/2gal milk jugs of frozen water stored in there. Learn one lesson that water jugs are too thin a plastic if you freeze them they spring a leak as they defrost.

I have pull my back back out again and sitting on ice.....must remember "ice is my friend." Why does it seem like my life goes in circles like "Groundhog Day."

Read once that Dreams are a time when we can be crazy and it's okay. That if we didn't have the crazy time we'd really go crazy. Made sense to me.

He is flying back and forth now-- And I did see him! There are some videos to watch of the first branching of him. The other two haven't left he nest at all yet. I keep watching!

You can define the boundaries of your diet road based on the number of calories, points, or other factors you choose to follow. As you walk the reoad each day your goal is to stay between the sides of the road. The boundaries are flexible. They are guidelines but they allow for common sense and good judgement. On days when you are strong you can move them closer together, making the road more narrow When you take a break from your program or work on maintenance, you widen the boundaries and allow more variety. But even on a really bad day, you never eliminate the road or get off completely. Boundaries should give you benefits, not punishment! They are guidelines not burdens. You define them and can adjust the edges of your plan to match your life. This will make you more successful than if you punish yourself every time you step off the road. (I like this and is basically what I doing these days!).

Reconnecting with our body will allow you to lose weight and will also keep you from gaining it back. The second step is exercise. Use it as a way to connect to your body, define your priorities, use the emotional strength to stick to them, and to make a significant identity change for the better. Do not use this approach (the author's approach to exercise) as a tool to lose weight or see immediate results.

This author has a very different approach to exercise. She asks you to make a huge shift from a taker to a giver. In the past you have likely exercised for what it would give you. This usually leads to not liking it and doing activities that are not enjoyable. Use exercise as a way to give to yourself. Start identifying with the giver part of you. Don't expect anything in return. You are giving your body the gift of movement, health, strength, and time. You are letting your body know that it is worth your energy.

You will derive the benefits of all the above and this will help you maintain weight and make you feel better once you get good at it. But these are by-products and not the reason you start exercising. It should feel like you are making a contribution to your life, filling your body with emotional deposits of love and you will feel good about giving. It is something you are adding to your life not a burden you are taking away. You are stating YOU MATTER.

When you give you receive. You will lose weight in time. You will also develop a relationship with your body that is tight and intimate. This is how you know you won't gain the weight back...you are not fighting with your body any more. You are listening and living in cooperation with it. In this way you will lose weight permanently.

So forget about exercising to lose weight. If you go for the fat loss results you'll be disappointed (that's me!). Forget about anything except what makes you feel good. Make it convenient and something you'll be able to maintain. Something you love. Try out different things and see what you like that will call out to you time after time, not the one that you think will bring you results. The best result you'll get from exercising is the developement of a habit you can use as an emotional tool to relieve stress and connect with your body. That is the ultimate result.

As you begin to exercise, really pay attention to our body and how it feels. It may feel terrible at first, but this is not a reason to stop giving to it. The reason it is hard or tiring is because it's been neglected for so long. Note your feelings and gently encourage yourself to keep moving. Think about the emotional obstacles you are overcoming. Listen to your body tell you how neglected it feels, how out of shape it is, and how upset it is that you have been ignoring it. Let your body vent, and just keep giving. Eventually it will start to trust you and will thank you.

Hello goldies! Today was weigh in day. I lst 1 lb. I was kinda disappointed but I guess I shouldn't be because last week I had a 6 lb loss. I increased my exercise this week so we will see what happens.

Good Morning GG's

We finally got some much needed rain last night. It woke me up around 5 this morning. I guess I probablly got to sleep around 3 last night, so not much sleep. Didn't do much yesterday. DGS came over after school but DGD went home with a friend, so I only had one to entertain and feed. DGS told me that when he had his graduation party (he's 12, in 7th grade, so this will be awhile) he wants me to make spaghetti. Went to 2 graduation parties this weekend and didn't like the food.

Cajun, I do better through the week too. I think it's the structure. We end up eating on the run or eating out on the weekend. I like to have my meals planned. I do check out the menu pretty closely and try to make good choices when we are out, but that's not always possible.

Isabella, You DID it! Of course we can do anything we set our mind too. Cutting the lawn with DH watching wouldn't work though. He would be making comments and I would be making plans to hurt him.

Karen3, I hope your back is feeling better today.

Rie, In our time (you know, a million years ago) you had one baby shower. Having 4 is just nuts. Did she just get divorced and really need help?

Lynn, Your daughter takes after her mom. Amazing. Love the pirate ship.
