Default Question about protein bars

Hey everyone,

Since I'm new to SBD, I have a quick question... I don't have time at lunch to eat "lunch"... can I have a half of a protein bar instead? Or is that SBD suicide?? I'm on phase 1. Thanks!!

Here is one thread that discusses them: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/show...t=protein+bars

Most protein bars have foods that are not allowed on South Beach.

You need to start bringing a lunch from home. Turkey and cheese rollups or hard boiled eggs are as quick to eat as a protein bar which is NOT OK on this plan.
You are trying to detox in Phase I and the crud in frankenfoods will not let this happen. You must eat real foods.

Getting off the soapbox now!

I never take a lunch at work, I tend to eat while I'm working.

A few months ago, before I started SBD, I actually saw South Beach Diet bars in the grocery store. I haven't looked for them since then but if you are really really crunched, those might be ok for phase 2.

There was a post about these South Beach bars awhile back. They are not approved by Dr. A. Here is the article from the Dr on them:

Beware of Imitators!

If you've run across a meal replacement bar known as "South Beach Solutions," then you should know that these bars are not endorsed or manufactured by The South Beach Diet™.

It's easy to be confused, since South Beach Solutions bars have the same name as the diet—but rest assured that they are not SBD-approved. The name similarity is merely an unfortunate coincidence.

There are currently no bars that are approved as meal replacements on The South Beach Diet™. Instead, Dr. Agatston promotes consumption of fresh, whole foods. However, he is currently working with manufacturers to develop an appropriate alternative. Stay tuned to The South Beach Diet™ Online for further updates.

They are not approved by Dr Agatston. Somebody just grabbed the name and colours to make a profit! I think they may be off the market now because Dr A was pretty pissed off!

That would explain it. I saw them in a specific grocery store but haven't seen them in other grocery stores, I figured it was a pilot or something. Anyway, they may be off the market now, but thanks for the heads up just in case. I did think it was a little strange.

Thumbs up

Thank you all for the suggestions and advice...I REALLY don't have the time for a salad and don't have a desk or place to eat at other times than lunch time. In fact the AM sanck is tough to squeeze in, also. However, the cheese and turkey roll-up would be a good choice for me. I do stick with a hard-boiled egg and 1 slice of turkey bacon bor breakfast since it is so easy to eat on the run. Thanks again!!
