Imitation crab meat?

  • Does anyone know if imitation crab meat is OK for Phase I, or for any phase? I really like it, but when I checked the labels it looks like there is some sugar in the ingredients. I was actually craving the stuff yesterday but bought cooked shrimp in a bag instead. Thanks!
  • I can't find it in the Guide. I would avoid it as it is high carb whereas real seafood is zero carbs. Go for the shrimp instead - 0 g. carbs and 2 g. fat!
  • Surimi is the main ingredient for imitation crab, and it's probably an SBD no-no. Not only added sugar, but potato and other starches are used to form it. I would stick with the shrimp and other real or 'known' fish items. That's just me though:

  • Thanks, everyone. I'm learning how I got in trouble!

hi guys I know that imitaion crab is high in carbs about 18 per serving
if you eat a plain piece you can really taste the sweetness
  • Hi. Just an FYI - during an online chat with Dr. Agatston, a question was raised about imitation crab. Here's the that part of the script and I've also included the link if you want to read more of the chat:

Member Question: Can we use the imitation crabmeat?
Dr. Agatston: Yes. It's white fish, and that's fine.

I think you would have to check the ingredients. Depends on the crab you buy. Some add sugar and other no-no's on SBD, but others don't.
  • Great info., Vanity. Thanks!
