Phase I Frozen Dinners?

  • Hi! My boyfriend and I are starting the South Beach diet, and although I usually eat stuff I cook myself, he works long hours and feels the need for microwave dinners. I haven't seen many official South Beach frozen meals around lately, so are there any lean cuisine or weight watchers (or healthy choice) dinners that are acceptable for South Beach Phase I?

    We don't normally recommend using frozen meals on SBD because they all contain added chemicals and ingredients that aren't compatible with this plan, even the SouthBeach frozen meals. They DO help in a pinch, though, and would be OK to use on occasion. Just be sure to check the ingredients and buy the ones that are the closest to being on plan for Phase 1 and Phase 2.
  • Make him stuff ahead of time and put it in microwavable containers. The Taco Bake is great reheated and my husband loves it. Cook enough so you have leftovers that you can freeze or refrigerate for later. It tastes better and is healthier than store bought stuff. He needs way more veggies than you could ever get in a frozen meal anyway. It's really hard to find any frozen dinners that are Phase I compatible. The few that South Beach had were yucky!
