Steel Cut Oats

Hope you can help me with this confusion. What is the difference in steel cut and regular old fashioned oatmeal. This may have been explained before but I am unable to find this info. Thanks.:)

From Wikipedia:

Quote:

Steel-cut oats are whole grain groats (the inner portion of the oat kernel) which have been cut into only two or three pieces. They are golden in colour and resemble small rice pieces.

Steel-cut oats are also known as coarse-cut oats, pinhead oats, Scotch oats, or Irish oats.

While "regular old-fashioned oatmeal" is rolled oats (correct me if I'm wrong), where the grains are pressed between steel rollers.

I believe that's correct... and "instant oats" are rolled even thinner than that. That's why they cook so quickly!

Steel cut tastes a whole lot better than regular old fashioned oatmeal. I'm not a big oatmeal fan but I really like the steel cut. I eat them because they're good for me and fill me up. My husband started buying the steel cut kind and I love to throw in raisins, brown sugar, blueberries or nuts. Trader Joe's and World Market both sell them where I live.
