Cat Boarding

I've never had to board my cat before, but I'll be in Florida for Thanksgiving and don't know anyone who will be around to pet sit. How much is a normal price for boarding? I've only been able to find one place with a comprehensive website that takes cats (and heaps of dog-only places). They charge about $18/day. And on their site I ran into a bit of a problem, they require the feline leukemia vaccination. He's an indoor cat so he doesn't have it. Are all places going to require this?

Yes, most if not all cat boarding places will require vaccinations.

Our local favorite cat boarding place does only cats, has extensive play areas, an outdoor area, and is run by people who genuinely love cats. One of our cats still hated it (he is very shy with new places and people), but the other had an absolute BLAST. They have basic service for about $10 a night, more for larger accommodations, grooming services, and etc.

Personally, I'd look into having a cat sitter come, clean litter, feed cats, etc. We are lucky enough that we have someone to watch our cats but cats tend to do better in their own environment. There are a lot of pet sitter companies that will do it for you and they tend to be cheaper than taking the cats somewhere.

I'm with Nelie -- we've always used cat sitters for all our cats. I've had luck finding cat sitters by calling our vet's office. Often vet techs moonlight as pet sitters or they can recommend someone reliable. :)
