Short, fat dogs
 

They say that owners resemble their dogs, well....just an observation: I have 2 Dachsunds, both overweight. I'm also short and overweight. ;)

Anyway, I'm not here to talk about that....I'm here to vent. I've written in a previous thread about my husband buying me and the kids goodies as a sign of love (he's skinny as can be, eats like a horse, does absolutely NO excercise whatsoever..go figure). A year ago in February we acquired 2 Dachsunds. One of them was a little overweight, and my daughters and I knew that we can't let him gain more, because it could lead to back problems. My husband is constantly sneaking them treats and mixing canned food chunks in with their dry food. We've asked him repeatedly to stop, but he won't listen. It's obvious that Oscar has gained much more wt since we've had him. Their annual vet appt came due, so I deliberately made the appt on a Sat so my husband would be able to "help" me take them. The vet told us that Oscar was 5 pounds overweight and Mayer is 1 or 2 pounds over.....that's too much for a Dachsund. :(
Now I have three of my daughters, myself AND THE DOGS on diets and excercise regimes! :)
Hopefully, since it came directly from the vet himself, my husband will think about the dog's health and stop sneaking goodies to them!

You will never win the battle of the dachshund bulge! I have 2 of them, they eat the same yet one is sleek the other is pudgy! AND try as I might to diet them the hubby gives them treats .......... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :mad:

Oh and I'm pudgy too but he dont give me treats!!!!!!!!!! :dz:

LOL thanks for the tip! The only thing I can do is tell him that we've already fed the dogs before he came home from work. So far it works! Take your hubby to the vet like I did! :)

HAHAHA Love this. I am also owned by two weiners. My oldest is pudgy, my youngest is a lean mean eating machine. I would never own any other type of dog though..They are sooo silly.

My dog sooooo does not look like me....the exact opposite she is a long lanky Borzoi. How did that happen? I should have a Doxie!

My puppy is always getting food snuck to her by my dad. To counteract, my mom, brother, and I won't give her actual doggy treats. She LOVES broccoli and carrots and those work well enough for her!

I absolutely love this breed, but I couldnt have them myself. My auntie's 2 are called "Hotdog" and "Ketchup", and their favourite playtime activity is running around chasing one of those laser pen lights on the floor! Its hilarious to watch!

My girlfriend's brother and his wife raise dachsunds and currently have five that they breed. They vary in shapes and sizes... from my observations, the short-haired dachsunds are usually more lean than the long-haired; it has to do with their common personality traits. Short-haired dachsunds generally have more energy and are more playful, while the long-haired ones are so lazy that they'll get hungry, then drop to the floor and take a nap before they reach their food. :p I'm a big fan of long-haired dachsunds, though... they're so beautiful and affectionate! :D

Mine are the exact opposite LOL. My shorthair is the pudgy one and my longhair is the skinny one. I am hoping he will fill out sooner or later though.

My baby (a dachshund named Wolfgang, Wolf for short) is 15 years old & prolly 2-5 pounds overweight. He plays outside in the yard all the time, but doesn't like toys. His favorite toy is his treat ball. (You can put Charlee Bear cookies inside it. They bat it around til the treats come out.) This is the only toy he will play with. If you throw something for him, he will go get it the first time, but if you throw it again he will look at you like you're stupid.

He used to love walks, but now with that, he will do his business within the first 2-3 houses on the route & turn for home. If I tug on the leash, he looks at me like, "I did what you wanted. Can't we go home now?"

Instead of bones for treats, we give him a big peeled carrot. He loves that.

Also, he love love LOVED pig's ears. :barf: LOVED! :love: :barf: But I found him some vegetarian pigs ears, he gets one of those about once a week.


He is already on Eukanuba diet dog food & diet dog cookies.

Our dog got a bit pudgy when we first moved him from a house to an apartment, but after we realized we put 10 lbs on him in a year (from 47 to 57!) we quickly got him losing weight. More exercise, less food. If only it were easy to put humans on the same program so simply!

My dog loves carrots too. He also really likes mushrooms, broccoli, cucumber. Most any vegetables except the leafy kinds really, I'll let him have a little of whatever I'm fixing as long as it's not too acidic or fatty (like tomatoes or avocado). I didn't even know they made veggie pig's ears! I'll be on the lookout for those next time I'm at the pet store.

As for people looking like their pets, I don’t think there’s much resemblance here. I only wish I were this cute. ;)
