Welcome! Congrats on your son and your committment to nursing - glad it's going well for you!

He's not going to be ready for cow's milk until he is at least a year old. Cow's milk is one of the biggest allergens out there (along with soy). This is why the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for a minimum of one year (their policy can be seen here).

I don't mean to seem like I'm coming down on you. :) I just want you to realize that introducing milk to early can lead to troubles later on (babies' tummies especially aren't made to handle milk).

Four months is a great start, though! Welcome. We have the same overall goal weight.

Wow, I have never heard of any pediatrician recommending cow's milk before 12 months. Babies' stomachs are not mature enough to digest the proteins in cow's milk and it can lead to other issues. Good for you for breastfeeding, though - you are giving your baby the best start possible! Good luck with your January goal.

Yeah, I've never heard of doctor recommending it before 12 months myself. My ped. said 12 mo. So my grandmother, who like my mother knows more about raising kids than anyone and so therefore must be more knowledgeable than even the ped., wanted to know why I was still breastfeeding. Anyway, she made the comment that she weened all hers by 9 months. I mentioned that the ped. didn't want him on whole milk until 12 mo. She said hers weren't either. So I asked what she did between 9 and 12 mo. She put them on formula. I'm like...so formula was better than breastmilk?????
