SB & Nursing?

I know I've read on here before, someone or some people were doing SB and nursing. Who was it? Out with it! :)

I started SB again yesterday. I'm struggling with it. I am concerned about making sure to follow Phase 1 yet I'm also adding extra phase 1 foods than what the book outlines in the meal plans - extra snack and extra things with meals, too. Should I also be eating some phase 2 foods? I think maybe I should... I feel very hungry despite eating loads of phase 1 foods. I'm just concerned that I won't overcome my sugar cravings if I continue to eat carbs, even healthy ones, during these first 2 weeks.

Any personal experiences would be appreciated. ;)

Skip Phase One altogether is the usual advice given to nursing mamas. At the very least, don't follow the menus in the book; it's too low in calories. I worked out the calorie count for the book's menu when I first got it; it's only an average of 1200 calories.

Of course, it won't hurt a thing, IMO, if you mainly follow Phase One but add in maybe some fruit & whole grains like oatmeal. You're not really going to wind up nutritionally deficient without bread, KWIM?

thanks gbmm. i ate a bowl of high fiber cereal last night and couldn't believe how much better i felt, and i didn't get carb cravings after so i think it was ok. i think i'll add either a whole grain or piece of fruit each day and go from there. i just wasn't eating enough i think!

From what I have read of SB, it seems like a very common sense and healthful plan. The reality is, women in famine conditions still produce high quality milk, even if the quantity goes down a bit, and that is with poor access to any food at all and a tiny amount of daily calories. Seems like SB is much better than the SAD (standard American diet) that most of my nursing mommas subsist on. Keep a reasonable calorie range and you will do fine. Can you stick to about 1800 calories and then throw in some exercise?
