Question about being big & pregnant.

  • Hey this may sound silly and I hope I don't offend anyone but when your big when can you start to tell your pregnant? I'm 12 weeks pregnant and I'm wondering when I'll actually start showing. I gain 70lbs w/ my first child and haven't lost any of it. When I was pg w/ my dd you could tell I was pg starting at about 12 weeks. I'm so excited about being pg but afraid I'll just look like I'm getting bigger & not pg. I tend to gain weight EVERYWHERE. I weigh 198lbs now & so afraid of what I'm going to weigh in my 9th month. I'm only 5'3" so weight is not flattering at all on me. My main question is will my tummy still look flabby (like it does now) when I get further along & will I be able to ware cute maternity clothes. I'm very self conscious especially since most of my family (that I;m around) is really skinny & would be embarrassed to show my belly or let people feel my belly.

Sorry if this sounds silly or stupid.
    Thanks
  • I was about 100 lbs heavier than you the first time I got PG. I didn't start showing until about 5-6 months. Here's a pic.
Although with clothes on I definitely looked PG but if I looked at my belly, it just looked bigger.
Here's one of me at around 8 mos.

And although I still had the two bellies, you could tell that there was a baby in there too.
With my son I was showing by 4 months and people could tell I was PG and I weighed over 300 lbs. at that time.
With this PG and the last one I miscarried, my top half of my belly started pooching out around 6weeks. I've even lost weight this time around and my jeans aren't fitting well and I'm just over 6 weeks.

    HTH.
  • I didn't really start to show to everyone else really till I hit about 24 weeks. I could definitely tell beforehand, but unless you knew me you wouldn't have known. I have had friends that weigh less than me not show until the very end and have friends who weigh more who show very early on. I think it depends on the individual.

    21 weeks

    27 weeks
  • i think i was about in my 5th to 6th month before it really became noticeable and i was 210 when i first got pg, i didnt even know i was pg til i was almost 10 weeks... i think i around the end of my 4th month before i even really needed to go up a size in clothes, and didnt hit maternity til after i was showing...

it was kinda weird the whole showing thing... i went to bed one night still just being fat ol' me and woke up with a baby belly and it kind of rapidly progressed from there, once i started showing i really started showing...
  • I was quite far along when it finally showed with my last one. I only gained 20lbs and wore my normal clothes till maybe the last two months. I have a small waist and big hips so my waist filled out and my pants finally fit for once in my life for the time i was pregnant! (i'm 4 months pregnant in this picture)
  • Thanks everyone who responded. I was just alittle sad about my weight & curious about when I would start showing. How did the fr.s visits go? Did they lecture you about your weight? Since I got pg w/ my 1st daughter I gain weight so fast & have already gained 10 lbs (if not more, haven't got on the scale in 2 weeks) It just gets depressing. Thanks again everyone.
  • I was 207 on my first visit. I hadn't gained anyweight yet. I get lectured on that. lol I am starting to show, although the flab above my hairline will never get hard like the rest of my belly is getting. I am 19 weeks today and people are starting to come rub my belly. (yep, the nerve, lol)
  • I've never been given a lecture for my weight. I was told about the possibilities of health risks due to my weight but that was it. The only comment I got on my weight was to not go over 350 when I was PG with William because their OR beds couldn't hold more than that and I would have to transfer hospitals. I actually weighed 13 pounds less when I had him than when I got PG.
  • I agree with it depending on the individual. At 140 pounds, I didn't even KNOW I was pregnant until almost the 6th week. In fact, I was exercising 90 minutes a day and on a strict 1300/day calorie diet trying to lose my final 5 pounds. And I managed to lose 3 of them while pregnant, before I found out that is. After that, I did a full about-face and start eating everything (until I asked myself what the heck I was doing! LOL). And it was probably another 4 or 5 weeks after that that I began to show.

This was me around 2 months:

  • It all depends on the person and the pregnancy. Out of three pregnancies, total strangers have noticed I was pregnant exactly twice, and the first time wasn't til the 8th month of my third pregnancy! (The second time I was already overdue by three days and taking a walk around the BX trying to kick my prodromal labor into gear.)

When it'll be noticed by you & those who know you is anyone's guess. I was 182 when I found out I was pregnant this last time, and I didn't start showing til about 20 weeks, whereas with my first when I weighed 250+ I started showing at 12 weeks. So there really seems to be no rhyme or reason to it that I can discover.
