Happy New Year!
I just have a basic Q on milk production. (if I give TMI then I do apologize)
I nursed my son until he was 11 months old. He is now 17 months old. When I do a monthy breast exam, I still get a "milky discharge".
Does milk really take that long to dry up? I happened to read in Prevention that it is also a possible sign of hypothyroidism. (I have also been unexplainably depressed lately, horrible periods, and have achy joints.....also signs of hypothyroidism) Don't know if I should see a Doc yet or not......

Thank you for your response marbear. I guess I should make a doctor's appt. Sometimes I'm afraid that I overreact and feel silly asking the doc questions. Ah well, if I don't ask I'll never know.
How is your husband now??

I had weaned down to just two pumping sessions per day when I stopped, only getting like 2 ounces each time. I think my milk was mostly gone by 2-3 weeks. Definitely by one month after I stopped. Have you tried making your breasts a hands-off zone (like for DH ) for awhile and see if that helps? If it's not thyroid, it could just be that any stimulation is getting them going again?

I agree that you need to see a doctor. Schedule a physical and ask there if they can include that test in your blood work. That makes it a little less intimidating. As far as breast milk, I was always a leaker. It always took me forever. As long as I could have sex without it squirting, I never worried.

Marbear, I usually wear a sports bra, so maybe I'll lay off that for a while. What foods tend to dry a person up?
DeafinlySmart, I used to SHOOT too :-) Poor kid would get milk in his eye all the time!!!!
