Hi everyone! My name is Tomi, single mom to a beautiful 4 month old daughter named Taryn. Being that she IS 4 months old, there's no reason I should still be in maternity clothes, but I'm too cheap to buy more, so it's time I started working at losing the weight. I BF exclusively, and plan on child-led weaning, so I was thrilled to find you ladies! Anyway, I really look forward to getting to know you all.

Let me be the first to say hi! The forum is a bit slow at times, but I think as more people find us that will change. :)

Welcome! I have a 9 month old daughter who I'm also planning to let self-wean. I think it may be fairly soon though, since she loves her solids. :(

Good luck on your weightloss!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! Taryn was born on Feb 9th, weighing 6lbs, 11oz and 20 inches long. Had her 4 month shots today  and she's up to 12lbs, 8oz and 24.5 inches long!!! I had a great pregnancy after the first 4 months, but gained waayyy too much during the 1st trimester due to quitting smoking. I stayed in really great shape, walking 3 miles per day, which really helped me out during labor. (Water broke at 1:30pm, she was born at 9:02pm-7 and a half hours!!!) Unfortunately, being a single mom, I don't have alot of time to work out any more.

I'm determined to change that. Went shopping day before yesterday for the 1st time post-baby. It was so depressing. I'm now a size 16, when I used to be a 6. I got on the treadmill last night, but I didn't last long LOL. So I set a small goal of getting to 140, that sounds easier than 120. I realize it's going to take awhile to get there, but I've finally made up my mind to just do it. Thanks for the support, and good luck to you all as well!

PS-sorry this got a little long.

I wouldn't kill myself to get into a size 6 again. :) There's another thread around here where we talk about how our bodies do tend to cling to some extra weight to ensure we've got the fat stores to continue nursing, and most sources I've come across say that up to about 33% body fat is normal & healthy for a woman anyway.

Xuzi, don't worry too much about your little one loving her solids. My 15-month-old loves her solids, but she still runs up to me for some milk to wash 'em down with. ;)

Hmmm..that's what I was afraid of. I've heard lots of women say they hang on to a few pounds until they wean. I don't think I'll ever be a size 6 again, but it gives me something to keep in mind. In HS, I was a size 18, 165lbs, highest weight ever. Lost a ton of weight, got to 120 and a size 4, evened out to about 130 or so, and stayed there for years, then I quit smoking and stupidly thought, "oh, Im preggo, I can eat whatever I want. Ha! I gained like 5 lbs during the last 5 months, the rest was all in the 1st 4. (And yes, I'm embarrassed to admit that. *sheepish grin*) So now I'm sitting at 163, and my theory is, I did it once, so I can do it again. So, I'm going to give it my best. Good luck to me! ;)

When my daughter was your little one's age I used to do the Walk Away the Pounds videos while wearing her in our Bjorn carrier. GREAT workout, and it's actually how I got her down for her morning naps for a while. I'd wear her tummy-to-tummy and by the mid point of the 30 (2 mile) workout, she'd be asleep and I could put her down in her crib and go on with the workout without her.

I was a size 16 after DD was born and in just 3 months have gone down to a size 8! My baby was 6 months old when I started really working at it and she's 9 months now. You can deffinately do it!

Twenty-three pounds is doable. I started out walking with my first daughter too. In fact, that's still my primary exercise. Pushing close to 100 pounds of stroller & kids is a good workout. ;) Babies are also very good for resistance exercises. They think it's play, and as you get stronger they get bigger so it's a nice way to naturally increase resistance. And when they start climbing things you really get a workout as you try to run and get them down before they fall down.

I quit smoking while pregnant, too! Seriously, I gained 30 the first 3 months and 10 pounds the last 6! Welcome! It is nice seeing other people going through this. I kissed my size 6's goodbye, but I was at a pretty heavy point for me before I even got pregnant. I think an 8 is about as low as I should be ever again. The only reason I was ever a 6 was because I waitressed and bartended full time. Now my job is just a fraction as active. Anyway, enough about me. Again, welcome.
