The Fourth Trimester
Is anyone interested in discussing weight loss after having a baby, nursing or not? I had my first baby 17 months ago and my second 3 months ago.
I was pretty active and maintained a 50 pound weight loss for a few years before becoming pregnant. I never lost the weight from the first baby before I got pregnant with the second. I began exercising and dieting pretty consistently about a month ago, but it's hard to do that if you haven't done it for two years! I know I can lose the weight because I've done it before, but there are some definite challenges even though I'm not nursing! Ideally, I'd like to lose 50 pounds again. Exercise is tough because I've let myself get so out of shape, the core muscles just ain't what they used to be, and well, I have two babies to work around! The dieting is hard because I didn't diet for the past two years (except dieting forced by morning sickness!). So, I'd love to chat about general post-partum weight loss! Anyone want to join in? |
I'm sure I"ll be at his point in three months or so. I've gained everything I lost. I'm worried about getting the motivation back when I know I'll be tired and stressed. I have lost the postpartum weight before but it took concentrated effort. I wish you luck and my advice would be to come to these boards often for support.

I wish you the best of luck. I have a 3-year-old who will be four in late August and I nursed her for three years and it was wonderful for my mental health, although having a baby around can be really draining on the physical health. I don't have any great advice outside of the obvious, but I wish you the best. :D And congratulations as well - Babies are such a blessing!

Thanks for the support! I've been pretty good about exercise and I hope I can build my stamina pretty quickly. I had forgotten how good it can make me feel.

I keep joking that I need to have another baby (NOT)
My weight fluctuated between 155 and 170 most of my early 30's and I got on the stick and got down to the 155 end before getting pg with dd. Delivered at 194, got stuck at 186, worked it off and 10 more and kind of got stuck at 146 - got pg with ds (see avatar- isnt he cute :D ) Ran and worked out like mad and delivered at...194. This time I dropped to 176 pretty quickly and then the REAL work began and I am puttering along now at 133 ish. So one more baby and maybe I'll get stuck in the 120's? Seriously, exercise and diet, its the same as with any other time in life. It came off slowly after dd and quickly after ds and I think the difference is the muscle I built working out while pg. But never too late to start! |
I'm in! I delivered at 255 and was thrilled to be down to 237 at two weeks pp...and I've been hovering at that mark for the last three weeks. I've got my 6 week pp checkup on Thursday and I plan on hitting the gym everyday starting Monday, as well as revamping my diet (no more pop or junk food, for starters!).

I have a 4 year old, a 15 month old, and a 2 month old. (yeah, 4 months between the 2nd and 3rd pregnancies, not by choice!).
I never lost the weight after my first, even after 3 YEARS. I didn't lose all the weight from my 2nd either. Right now I'm 51 pounds heavier than I was before I ever had a baby. :( It is so hard to eat right when my kids' dietary needs are so different from mine (needing more fat and carbs, for example). And exercise? What's exercise?! I actually have a new workout DVD. I've been able to get through the warm up 3 different times, before being interrupted by some child or husband. Walks with the kids are really my only exercise, but my 4 year old has to walk OR I have to put the baby in the sling and push the other 2, which kills my back. Which of course would not hurt so much if I lost some weight... which of course would be easier if I could exercise more.... it goes round and round. :) |
I just had my baby 3 weeks ago...and I gained a total of 30 pounds...I have lost 20 pounds in the last 3 weeks...and I still have about 10 or the pregnancy weight to lose and an additional 5 that I want to lose...I understand that it can be hard to get your exercise routine back in..but I think that once you start doing it..it will come as second nature to you. I am not able to do my full rountine yet..I have to wait for another 3 weeks...but I am walking for 15 mins at a time..usually 2 to 3 times a day..just to get my energy back up..and it really is helping.
Good luck with your weight loss..I am sure you can get back into exercising, and you will begin to feel great. |
