IR-New here...will WLS help?
:) Good morning! New here...have read some of the older posts...great info!
I am seeing and endo in a few weeks...UGH...already taking 2000mg of Glucophage XR for a year now. I've started the process for WLS, but now I'm not sure that it would help. Anyone here have this experience?  |
In the sense that weight loss surgery would lead to weight loss, then yes it will help. Is it the only way? No, but if it is what you are up for then do what you need to do. Your endo will probably be able to shed more light on the situation and may actually have some ideas of other meds that may help out.
Good Luck! |
I'd exhaust other options before WLS, that should be your absolute last resort. Have a competent doctor investigate the medical cause of your IR- it could be PCOS, NAFLD, or something else that's treatable.
WLS is a major operation with a good deal of risk, not to mention the aftermath (stomach & food amount issues) can be rougher than the recovery time for some individuals. I was considering it at one time, but that was before my IR diagnosis which opened up other solutions that worked. A good doctor made all the difference, before which I had been dealing with clueless "medical professionals" who accused me of being a closet overeater and didn't want to be bothered to do a glucose resistance test. |
