need serious support....

I am having a BAD week. I started WW 7 weeks ago and have only lost 6 pounds. The last 3 weeks I have GAINED. I have never stayed with a program for this long. I am eating healthier and making better choices. I have had to stop the treadmill for a while though. I have arthritis and a spur in my back not to mention neck problems that they can't seem to find a dx for. Anyhow, when I go on a program I usually lose 10 pounds then I am stuck. What can I do? I am so upset that I have completely went off the program hoping that it will throw my body out of whack and go back to the program on Thursday. I just don't know what else to do. I didn't lose weight on metformin, topimax, Ritalin, Adderall or Dexadrine. I seem to gain weight instead of lose weight.
I used to drink like 4 Coke's a day and eat all kinds of junk food. Now, I drink Diet Sierra Mist and water. I chose fruits instead of junk. AAHHHHH...this alone will stress you out. I don't want to get on that scale again and see that all the right choices ended up being wrong again.
Thanks for letting me vent and any advice would be appreciated.:(

mkjohn. I'm insulin resistant too and I hate it. I usually loose 0.5 lbs a week and my weight-loss buddy losses 3-4lbs.. how do you suppose that makes me feel? :(
I've been in a 3 month plateau where I did not lose or gain, it was terrible but I stuck to my diet and exercise and finally my body gave in. Its been a year now and I've lost almost 40 lbs.. 0.5+0.5+0.5.... will eventually add up to 40 :)
Watch what you eat, every single bite counts. Try to work out even if it hurts, I had terrible back and foot pains but now they're getting better. I used to not be able to complete a 10 minute walk on the treadmill now I can run!!. Just keep it up, believe and stick to it.
If you'd like to PM me on a daily basis to keep accountability and support I'll be glad to write back

mkjohn, I too understand how you feel. Counting calories didn't really work for me either but eating complex carbs does. It goes hand in hand with the Insulin Resistance and works for a lot of us gals with PCOS. I"m not talking Atkins here, I just cut sugar and 'white' things out of my life.

I am lucky as metformin helps me with my weight loss but didn't cause me to lose weight, it regulated my cycles and helps with sugar cravings. If I was only taking metformin but hadn't made the change to a restricted simple carbs diet I don't think I would be losing weight now.

Everyone is different with what helps them lose weight, even moreso when PCOS is part of the equation.

Have you talked to your WW leader about PCOS? or just that fact that the diet you are following is not working as well for you as you hoped? I believe WW has a high protein type plan you can follow but I am not totally sure, I've never been to WW or delved into it. I am sure someone on the WW forum here will be able to help you.

Feel free to PM me too, the more support the better!

Sarah

Thanks for the support ladies. I have tried the Atkins and South Beach but my body will not allow me to follow. When I eat too much protein, I get kidney stones and usually have to have surgery to fix. That has happened twice while I was on the Atkins plan. My RE, family doc and Gyno all think that WW is the best. My family doc told me to cut all excercise till we find out what is causing the neck pain. It is so bad that I even have to wear a neck brace. Tomorrow is going to be a new day for me. I am going back to the STRICT plan. I won't even put a morsel in mouth without first weighing ALL point values. I expected it to go slow, but this is just toooooooo slow.
Thanks again for the support. It makes me feel better knowing that you know how I feel. My dear hubby tries to be supportive but just doesn't get it yet.

South Beach isn't low carb beyond Phase 1. If you have kidney stone issues, go straight to Phase 2, or try Sugar Busters, which is a very easy to understand plan. Those plans aren't high protein at all. Maybe you can try Core on WW? Replace white potatoes and white flour with sweet potatoes and whole wheat flour.

Exercise is very important to an IR person. Will your doctor maybe let you walk? If not, hang in there. Maybe you should revise your goals to not gain weight, versus losing weight, until you are able to exercise again. I know this is so frustrating to you, I've been in a similar situation and it is tough!

Good Luck!

White flour products lack flavor anyway! Whole grains rule! Wonder bread, yuck. No bread product that you can squeeze into the width of a penny with such ease should be allowed for human consumption!!

Kasha (buckwheat) is a good alternative to white rice or potatoes. If you're looking for something to replace pasta I swear by soba noodles- which are japanese noodles made from buckwheat. They're REALLY good, but they don't go very well with tomato sauce. Mushroom sauce + soba/buckwheat is divine! Bulgur is great too.

I've always wanted to try Soba noodles. I don't know why, but I never have. I think white bread is useless also, but I do like it! Mmm. Reminds me of tomato sandwiches at my grandmother's house when I was little.
