Sorry I haven't been around. I had complications and got full of infection and wound back up in the hospital. I'm home now..again..hopefully this time for good!! I'm SO sick of hospitals!! But thank God they were there for me this last time. I hardly get on the computer anymore because it's too painful to sit here after a while. The only good thing about this is I lost 15 pounds since last Friday.
I'll be back when I am up to par. Thanks for thinking of me. I appreciate it!!
Noodles, glad to hear your surgery is over...sorry to hear about the complications. Yuk! But, the eyes are done, the ovaries are out and it will be smooth sailing from here on it.
Hope everyone is doing well. I am busy with the Christmas preparation and trying to do well with staying healthy.
I'm sorry if I haven't posted alot. I really went through **** and back with this surgery and the complications. I don't think I've ever been so sick in my life. That was horrible!! I'm still recovering, but thank goodness the icky feeling is gone. I'm just real sore and itchy now. The stitches must be dissolving inside because I got the itchies bad in there and can't scratch them. My wound finally is clearing up...Just a little red now. The antibiotic cream and pills did their trick. Thank goodness for modern medicine!! I imagine if I had these problems in the 1800s I would of wound up dead!
The estrogen patch is working too. No more hot flashes!! Those were horrible too! You can be just sitting here and all of a sudden you pour sweat, your clothes are soaked, it's awful. The things we go through...us females. Men have it easy I swear.
Well, I hope everyone has a great holiday!! I ordered a buncha movies online and hub and I are staying home and eating healthy TV dinners (seriously) and going to watch movies. If I feel up to it, we might go out to dinner and gamble a little at the casino. I'm not going to push it though. But I am going stir crazy in the house. Today I am going to try to walk to the mailbox. Then maybe later hub and I will go get a bite to eat. Baby steps...
I always say something good always comes out of something bad....in this case, I lost 18 pounds since December 10th! I can fit into my old clothes again!! Well cept for my pants and undies. I'm still swollen belly wise so I'm wearing maternity shorts/pants, but soon that will change as the swelling goes down and I'll be able to wear my other pants. And I've been controlling my eating, **** I cant pig out even if I wanted too because if I eat too much, the food travels along and rubs against all my internal boo-boos and hurts, so my stomach is happy with small meals. My goal is to keep it this way!! I only have 10 pounds to go to my original mini goal I reached earlier this year.
Well, there ya go. There's my past 12 days of life. Take care and remember the real reason we celebrate Christmas.
Gosh Noodles, that was fast for hot flashes! I didn't get them for a few weeks. I read somewhere that it stays stored in your body for a while. Good to know that yours went away so quickly.
Have a happy holiday, everybody! We have friends in from Holland and we're having a good old fashioned American Christmas for them, so I'm kinda in and out!
23 yr old female, I've been having numerous cysts popping up lately, and then they started linking bad acne and weight problems to it possible being PCOS!! Anyhow had a bunch of bloodwork done last week, waiting for the results...She mentioned having to possibly go on something called glucophage?
Anyhow I was just wondering if anyone could share some personal experience with me on this, seeing that Im not at all familiar with the syndrome?
Also, could this be a big infertility concern?
Thanks
Jewels
Hi, Jewels! Yes, the glucophage is a popular diabetic medication and it is very helpful for some PCOS patients that have insulin resistance. Some patients without insulin resistance also benefit from it. Yes, it does cause fertility issues for some people. Your best chances of decreasing the symptoms is to attain a normal weight, although that doesn't help for everyone. When your test results come back, ask your doctor to recommend a weight loss plan for you. Your bloodwork may dictate what diet you need. In any case, if you do have insulin resistance, you'll need to exercise more than the average dieter to keep your insulin regulated (which is vital to weight loss).
As for the acne, mine is controlled by a retinol cream and occasional antibiotic creams. Birth control pills also helped (when I had ovaries). This is a very treatable syndrome, but it is one that needs to be taken seriously because other than the many cosmetic side effects, we're also at a higher risk for heart disease and diabetes.
Look around the PCOS Articles section right above this one. Noodles and some of the other members have added a lot of informative articles that might be helpful. Feel free to ask any questions you have along the way!
Glad to hear both that you're doing better, and that there was a silver lining to all those clouds! I think you are right not to push yourself too hard right now - better to take it slow and get there than to run too fast and relapse.
Take care, and hello, everyone I haven't seen posted in a bit! Anonymouse, how was your holiday? I hope you're well.
