How do I know?
So I've been seeing a nutritionist, and she says that I am insulin-resistant or sugar-sensitive (she uses the two terms interchangably). It sounds logical enough, but I'm wondering: is there any medical way to test for this? How do you know if you're actually insulin-resistant? Should I talk to my doctor about it?
Also, my nutritionist recommended a homeopathic remedy called "Glucorekt." I can't find much info on it. Has anyone heard of it or tried it? Thanks! |
There is a blood test that can be done. You would need to go see your doctor and share with them what the nutritionist is saying.
I don't know if I would take anything without seeing your doctor first, especially since it might screwup your bloodwork, masking the Insulin Resistance. Good luck Violet |
Hi Spores!!
Glad to see ya came over here!!! I'd go talk to your doctor about the IR. There are a few different tests they do via blood work to see where your levels are and where to go from there. As for me, they had me do the Glucose fasting test. I didn't eat for 12 hours, then went in in the AM and they draw blood, then you drink the glucose "soda", then they take your blood every 45 minutes after that for 3 hours. This is how I found out I was borderline type 2 diabetic. Not anymore!! As far as the Glucorekt, I'm with Violet on this one. I'd see my DR. first before I start taking anything new. You don't want it to give your tests false results and also have it have a bad combo if it reacts with anything else you are taking. I learned that the hard way over the years with herbal remedies mixing with the wrong prescriptions. Come visit us in the monthly chat thread!! We'd love to have you!! :D |
Thanks for the advice. I had no idea insulin resistance was something a doctor could test for. I just got the book Syndrome X and am hoping it will shed more light on this after I talk to my doctor.
Eeek, the 12-hour fasting test sounds like no fun! I'll have to lock the refrigerator in order to make it. |
