Ideal Protein?

Has anyone with IR tried the Ideal Protein Diet? I am considering starting in the next week or so and would love to hear from others with IR that have tried.

I, like many of you, have struggled for years with my weight, and no matter what I do I can't seem to lose it. I even went as far as having weight loss surgery (didn't work because overeating was not the problem!). Even when I try to be extra good, I usually wind up gaining! It is very frustrating, but I haven't given up on myself yet.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Do you take Metformin? It helps with the weightloss, also my endocrinologist gave me a low carb diet for my IR, and as IP is a low carb diet, at first, at least it looks appropriate, but maybe you should ask a coach or even your doctor!
Good luck with the weight loss!

Billster, would you mind telling me your story too. I have pcos, and just started ideal protien....was a little concerned when my coach had never ever heard of pcos!

I have been on IP and I have PCOS and IR. I am currently down 32 lbs from my highest weight. I have been on metformin, since what seems like forever. Metformin has never helped with my weightloss. But IP has. It is a tough diet to stick to, but if you get your mind right for the amount of time that you need to be on the extremely restricted plan, then you will do AWESOME!! :)

Exercise and IP?

I just started IP last week. First low carb diet I have been on even though I have had PCOS for years. I have always been wary of them. So far I'm doing okay on this one, but have some questions. I'm not officially buying the food, but have substituted similar products that are widely available. I understand you are not supposed to exercise during the first phase of IP. Why is that?

Because it is so low calorie, not enough food to to support exercise, you get very dizzy and weight loss slows down. Light exercise such as walking is OK.

The total caloric intake on IP is pretty low...so your body needs to adjust...but also this is a "muscle sparing and fat burning protocol." The idea is to burn fat which is more readily available in us when we need to lose weight. there is just enough carb to "run" your engine in this diet with out turning excess into more fat..and the amount of protein you're eating will replace and preserve your muscle mass so running your engine doesn't start to burn your existing muscle.

After a while light exercise is OK...but some folks might notice a slowdown of the weight loss. Each person will need to go slow with "when and how much" to add.
Work with your IP specialist or counselor/ coach...or Dr. on when to start and the duration and exertion effort level that is best.
