Wow! All sounds like my own story. Hi! I have just joined looking for a support group on my journey to weight loss in PCOS. I too gained sudden huge weight when my Periods started. From being underweight at the age of 13, within 2 months of my periods, I became 20 kilo over weight. Have been struggling ever since for weight loss. twice in past 10 years I became under 155 lbs. But it all came back the moment I fell ill. Falling sick works like a curse to me. At the first place I am not able to eat or exercise and thenn on top of it I gain 2-3 lbs per day.
I tried Metformin and Glucophage for a year but it did not work. So now I have stopped taking it. From past 1 month when my weight went up to its maximum ever : 200 lbs, I and my husband decided we will go on a no oil and low carb diet. From 20th Feb'13, we are on this diet and today I checked my weight in the morning and it was 191 lbs. Apart from diet I am doing Sun Salutations(Yoga) 15 times in the morning. 20 mins of walk and 30-45 min of stationary cycling. Till now sounds like working but nothing works for too long.. I am hoping this may. |
I am sorry you hurt right now. :(

You saw results. In previous diet attempts you lost X WITH a metabolic condition. That part was good. Then you compared yourself to others in your groups who lost Y lbs. You choose to feel hurt/discouraged because you hoped for faster results and told yourself you/your efforts were not good enough. That part? Not so good. I am not criticizing -- at all. I'm also not devaluing your efforts. I'm trying to point out that PCOS people just have to learn to be ok with measuring by a different yardstick. It's just NOT the same as non-PCOS people. YKWIM? *hug* Take a deep breath. We present in at least 5 different ways as PCOS patients so even what works for one PCOS patient might not for another. Take heart -- you CAN do this. Just try to let go of a time table, expecting your body to behave like it does not have PCOS. Worth WITH it rather than against it. We can cheer you on! :carrot: Hang in there! A. |
"The only, only, ONLY thing that works for me is counting calories along with fairly low carb. I've tried every other diet (and made up a few along the way), and the key to me is getting into that "sweet spot" of low carb where I don't have as many cravings, so I can tolerate the lower calories without being ravenous."
Yes Yes Yes!!! I was diagnosed w/PCOS at 16, then IR in my early twenties. My cravings for bread/sugar/chocolate etc are a raging beast to the point of ridiculous (like eating Hershey syrup or maple syrup from a spoon if there was nothing else with sugar in the house) BUT - like Synger said - when I find that sweet spot with enough carbs that I dont feel like puking between meals and not too many - then I can walk on by any sweets because I just dont want them. Its a tough balance but it does work if you can figure out what works for you! Good luck to you. I'm so glad there is a section in 3FC for PCOS ladies!!! |
Hello everyone! I haven't been online in a few days, as I have had my mother in law staying with me while my husband is away for work...wow! What a nightmare!!!! Just kidding, of course! I just wanted to let everyone know that I have continued to stick with my diet, and I am now down 11 pounds! I'm so excited! I know that this is going to take time, but it's awesome to start seeing AND feeling some progress after so many failed attempts in the past. I finally found something that is working for me and believe it or not, it's pretty easy. I've just been using MyFitnessPal to track my calories, staying at or below 1300 calories a day, and cycling a few times a day. I still have moments when I SERIOUSLY crave sugar (especially this close to Easter!) but it's getting easier to say no every day. Anyways, I wanted to say thank you again for all of the amazing support and encouragement you have given me the last couple of weeks!

Glad to hear you are feeling better. Hang in there -- and remember... don't use that "non-PCOS people yardstick."
Just go by YOU. Your wonderful YOU-ness! Hang in there! A. |
