Vitamins and minerals???
I am looking to take vitamins?? lol
I have researched multivitamins... I found that Women's one-a-day seems to be rated high. But in researching, I found a few extras at livestrong. I feel like whoever was supposed to teach me about nutrition (exercise) failed. :?: My questions are: 1. Do you take a multivitamin/multimineral? Which one? Do you like it? 2. Do you take extra supplements besides? Which? Why? Do you like them? |
I take a multivitamin when I remember, and it is a generic store brand like women's one a day. I also take fish oil when I remember and vitamin b-12 (had a little bit of low level issues.) The best thing you can do is to eat whole, fresh foods with lots of emphasis on veggies and fruits. These foods contain more than just vitamins and minerals. They also have the other substances that fight heart disease and cancer, and you can't take pills to get all of these.

I take a prenatal for my multi vit
I drink a mega green drink a day too |
Thanks for the replies.
I struggle with taking pills. It's like my brain purposefully forgets them. Anyone have any tips for that? |
I just take the flintstones vitamins with iron in it (78% of iron in 1 tablet) because I get sick with the womens' multivits with 100% iron in it. I take it as a "back-up" because I don't always eat veggies and/or fruits every day. Sometimes potassium gluconate tabs because I don't eat bananas or potatoes that much and it helps prevent spasms or whatever in my calves.
As for trying not to forget to take it, add it to an habit of yours (toothbrushing, etc) so you don't forget. Another tip- Sometimes I put them in front of my coffee pot so when I see it, I won't forget so maybe set it out in a place where you're guaranteed to see it and not forget? |
Innate Women's One Daily (whole food vitamin)
Vitamin D3 GTF Chromium (whole food) Cranberry Pills (whole food) Vitamin C (whole food) Glucosamin/Chrondroitin for knee issue Magnesium (just recently ran out!) Vitamin B Complex (whole food) Probiotics Digestive Enzymes |
I have my vitamins right next to my toothbrush because I read somewhere that you absorb them better while your sleeping. (I guess because your digestive system slows and give it time to absorb)
I too can not remember to take my vitamins, and when I got pregnant it was very impotant for me to take them. The best way i found to do this was to set the bottle by my toothbrush so I never forget to take them. |
From my experience, One A Day makes me sick :(
I still need to find a replacement, not sure what I should be looking for though |
My view on this - and I'm a dietitian - is that supplements are only necessary if you have a specific deficiency (e.g. iron deficiency anaemia), have restrictions on your diet (vegetarian, vegan, coeliac, etc.) or have a medical need to take them (e.g. folate in pregnancy).
If you can eat a well balanced diet, then you'll get all of the nutrient you need, and in a form that your body likes. Eating a wide variety of real food (not highly processed stuff with ingredient lists you can't pronounce!) should provide you with all you need :) And getting what you need from your food means you don't have to remember to take pills :dizzy: |

I use "Reliv" - it's a vitamin powder. I put a scoop in my protein smoothies in the morning. I feel pretty good on it.
