PCOS and Depo Shot Question

I have PCOS that has really been left untreated because I have heart problems, so I can't take Metformin or birth control. I've been hoping that diet and exercise would help make things more normal. I hadn't had a period for a year, but started one at the beginning of February. I've been menstrating for about four weeks with some days being heavy and some light. First question: has anyone experienced an excessively long period after not having one for a while? I feel fine, but I figured a month was way too long so I made an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and she said the only thing she can do is give me a Depo shot since I can't take anything else. However, I'm confused. I thought the Depo shot stopped menstration but she made it sound like it would regulate it. Does anyone get the shot to regulate their period? After reading a little about the shot, I'm not sure I even want one. So that seems to leave me with the option of just waiting it out until it stops. Any ideas?

Go see your doc! 4 weeks of bleeding is a lot!

My mom used to be on Depo shots, but I haven't, so no feedback on that. What I have taken to bring on a period if I have not had one in a while is the Provera withdrawal pill. Sometimes it's the 10 day version, sometimes it is the 5 day version.

But please... ask your doc about ALL your options for your case and don't be afraid to find a second opinion.

I would get a second opinion. Depo does indeed stop your periods. In fact, I am truly convinced that Depo is what brough about my PCOS. I got pregnant (too easily!) and had very regular cycles before Depo, but because of my young age (18) when I had my kiddo I wanted to MAKE SURE I didn't get preggo again so I got Depo. Ha on me, I fixed myself good I guess LOL. Do some research on Depo because it is much more dangerous than people are led to believe. If I had known what I know now about Depo I never would have touched the stuff.
