Default I get it

I thought I was crazy. I have PCOS (or was once diagnosed with it) I just got married. And although at this moment I am not happy with husband, I want to have a baby. I have my period though. I was also diagnosed with low thryoid. My emotions and hormones really need to get right!

Like you, I have never been diagnosed with PCOS, but have many of the symptoms...weight loss was the ticket for me. I lost 60 pounds, and got to 200 - and conceived with femara. My periods returned to regularity after losing the initial 10% or so - so I think that 10% figure is right on. After DS was born, my cycles were regular and conceiving DD was easy...not helpful to you I know as you're working on #2, but losing weight would probably help a lot. Good luck to you!

Default Diabetic Vegan diet

Myself I am 38 years old .At 22 I was diagnosed with PCOS.Well that would explain why I never had regular periods.I started my period at 13 and from their basically never saw it again
I was skinny as a stick back then, infact during that time I was anorexic and my mom and school had me undergoing treatment for it .
I really did not even know what PCOS was when I was told about it because all they did was tell me to go on the Birth control pill.Pardon me ? Why ? I am not even having sex as yet why would the doctor tell me that ? I felt rushed out the doctor's office and it was the end of that for awhile.

Then a year after I was married ,in 2002 I started with my first visits to a fertility clinic .I was on metformins and clomid. The first 3-4 cycles I produced up to four mature eggs but no pregnancy came out of them .I went through visits with many gyno's and treatments same clomid no success.
in 2006 I went through gonal treatment and IUI ,I became pregnant with twins .I had 12 -14 mature eggs on each side from those meds.I lost twins at 23 weeks .My emergency cerglage was done to late and all the doctor could do was apologize.Looking at rate MD my story with this doctor was similar to many women . He does not look at ultrasounds.Which if mine was got early my twins would of survived. And his nurse who is also his wife when I was going through pain in the office was be belittling and insulted me to everyone in the waiting room .Well seems because he is the first where I am to do test tube twins he has a big name and as one woman stated doctors and lawyers are afraid of him .Well karma comes back does it not ?!
Because he was also the head of that clinic I left and went to another where I received great care and was placed in the special pregnancy program .My son is now 2 and a half years old .
Well with all the treatments in the past my husband and I like many are tapped out of money . Metformins made me sick clomids no longer help and Gonal, follistim ,bravelle are all very expensive though they work great on me .
I tried all the diets in the past south beach etc that people recommended on forums non were successful in helping me ovulate and regulate my periods.
Then I read a blog about PCOS and following a diabetic vegan diet .
Well I have been following it since November , since then I have been getting regular cycles and according to my clear blue easy monitor I have been ovulating as well !

We'll be starting back trying to conceive actively soon ,my only concern is my age now but I will ask the doctor about this when I see her on the 8th of this month .
By the way instead of metformins I am on Glumetza which my specialist placed me on . I don't get the same side effects and instead of every meal , I only take it once a day .It is a form of metformin but a slow release!

Tunzi, what a story! I also had a period (age 14) and never had one again...unlike you, Ive NEVER had a natural period...even when i weight 155 in college. I dont respond to clomid (although I did, and got pregnant with my son who is now 3 1/2 after 3 rounds). I have a large cyst and will start with repronex once that is resolved.
Im so sorry to hear about your twins. Can you share what happened after 23 weeks?
Looks like you are on the right track. If you are ovulating you might be one of the lucky ones to get pregnant natrually!!! good luck

tunzi,
I am so sorry for the loss of your babies. I lost one last year after 6 years of trying, and its the hardest thing I have ever been through...
I didn't respond to clomid either. Most PCOSer's are clomid resistant. There is another drug called Femara if you want to ask your Dr about it. Its more expensive then Clomid, but it worked to get me pg. I had 2 eggs on 5mg every time.
Good luck to all of you trying. We aren't going through treatments at the moment, but hoping for a suprise miracle kind of.

I was just diagnosed with PCOS, found out because we haven't been able to conceive and been trying for 1 1/2 yrs. I have also been struggling with my weight, I have been overweight my entire life (230 lbs in high school) but yo-yo (lose weight, gain back, lose, gain....) Is this common for people with PCOS? Or just me? lol I was down to 166, which is the lowest I've ever been, then I gained back 50 lbs in a year. I also have Hashimoto's (thyroid condition) so I thought it was related to that, but my thyroid has been normal.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I need to lose about 60 lbs but have tried everything, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, etc. and haven't had much luck. I worked out like crazy, and MAYBE lose 1/2 a lb in a week, and thats with starving myself. Now I'm depressed because it seems no matter how hard I try...I can't lose weight and I can't get pregnant. Epic FAIL!

Any insight/experience?

Thanks!

Have you tried being really good about low-carb/GI? The new WW system is geared more towards that, but no in any specific terms. I'm logging my points on WW e-tools in conjunction with a mainly "phase 2"-ish South Beach Diet kind of diet. It's working pretty well. As I"m sure you must know, low carb is the way to go for most of us PCOSers.

The best diet for me has been unprocessed foods and low carb.

In other words, I simply don't eat refined carbs unless it's a special situation. You don't find me eating toast for breakfast or cereal anymore for example. But I will eat brown rice at lunch or dinner. I don't eat pasta regularly or pizza either or sandwiches.

This has worked for me. Other diets that are purely calorie counting don't work for me.

Yep I second low carbs and low processed foods. Also low/no sugar. This has worked for me when I can stick to it. It also helped me with skin problems (which are now flaring up again grrr). But I think its pretty common for weight fluctuations for people with PCOS...its just hard to STICK to eating this way for good. At least it is for me. I can follow it for awhile then I fall off. So I consider me a work in progress.

I was doing the new WW system at the start of the new year and wasn't losing weight. I told my doctor this and he said "calories in calories out, you must be doing something wrong". ugh....I honestly think it's the PCOS/blood sugar issues. I had a VERY high carb diet, I ate a lot of low fat/low calorie stuff and stayed within my points, but I think this was messing with my blood sugar. I'm on day 2 of Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet, and so far I feel pretty good. I've been looking up recipes and trying to get creative with the protein and veggies so I don't feel insanely deprived. Not sure if I have a false sense of secruity since I'm on day 2, but I'm not going nuts without the carbs for now.

FattyinCali, it may not be a false sense of security... you may be feeling better without the carbs if you have IR and your body is now "resting" from not having to balance all the carbs you were eating before... Good luck with the new WOE.

I'm not in the camp that thinks doctors are gods. They don't always know anything about nutrition or treating disease through diet.

Remember, docs study a lot in doc school... but they only get a day of nutrition. (Unless they are a nutritionist/dietician/foody kinf of field as their specialty)

I felt that way. I was very at peace with a vegetarian diet, vegan left me a bit anxious, and flexitarian I can be a lot calmer. I think it's the protein:carb ratio.

I suppose I could do vegan again but be more on the produce end rather than the grains. Grains seem to bother me.

A.

Not sure I would want a husband back that was openly cheating on me because I couldn't give him a child
