  • okay im not sure im in the right place or not but here goes. In 2007 i was in a car accident and a little over weight so when aloud to i started exersicing and eating well by aug. of 2008 i was at 165lbs *im 5'7"* i started at 215lbs. Well after a few months of still same routine i started gaining weight in nov. 4 months later i talked to my doctor as i had put on 80lbs in that short time. They sent me to my ob/gyn and i was told i had pcos in april of 09. The sad thing is no matter what i did i still gained weight. At one point over the summer i did lose a little weight but im not sure why i didnt do anything different. I however by jan of this year got fed up and aloud sugar in my diet againand the funny thing is since feb i have only gained about 10lbs*although any gain sucks* so now im 250lbs. and i cant stand it. I need some ideas on what i can do with to lose weight as i have been told its harder for someone with this to lose weight then an average person. i want to get started but want to start out right this time and not keep failing thus im here asking for help before starting again. Any ideas. i have very little money to spend on some of the expensive foods or books. And cant afford a nutritionist. i wonder if my doctor refered me to one if insurance would cover it anyone know that ? thanks for any help
  • also i had an ablasion and tubes tied last year so wasnt worried about the fertility part of this the bigest problem i have with the met. is when i have had surgery they assume im diabetic because of it even when i tell them thats not what its for. sigh.
  • Hi I'm New!
Just wanted to say hi! I'm new here and am looking forward to chatting with you all! I need the motivation of friends to finally lose this weight I've been carrying around for so long! So nice to meet you all and I happy to be here! Luv, Robbs, xo,
  • Hello and welcome! So, I will answer as much as I can. As far as the nutritionist, I would call your insurance and ask. It never hurts to ask! As far as weight loss, the only thing that has worked for me is South Beach, so reduced refined carbs and sugars. It is very hard to follow, and I have basically been gaining and losing the same 5 pounds for somewhere around 2 months. I am trying to just be patient and hope it all sorts itself out, but I understand how frustrating it is.
I also understand what you said about people assuming you are diabetic. Had that happen to me at my surgery in January. I wish they would just ask!
Just keep trying though. Exercise is GREAT for PCOS. I know I feel so much better after I exercise. There are lots of great people here with lots of good information so stick around!
  • Hi Chatterbox, I had a similar problem when I was diagnosed with PCOS. I also had pretty severe insulin resistance, and the only thing that worked for me was reduced carbs (low carb or South Beach Phase 1 for quite a long time) and lots of exercise. Exercise is crucial! If you have insulin resistance, you have to exercise more than someone without insulin resistance in order to lose weight properly. It's possible to get it off, though, so remember to look at that bright side - it WILL come off, if you stick to it! Good luck and a big hug to you -
  • Glad to read about how difficult it is for other PCOS sufferers...I'm on my second week of Ideal Protein (it is VERY DIFFICULT to follow) and I'm exhausted and I followed it exactly and only lost 1 pound (6 pounds the first week I assume from water weight). I have not been exercising because frankly don't have the energy. I am motivated to get the weight off I am just very frustrated that I have no result for my efforts and everyone else on here seems to lose 5 pounds a week on ideal protein. So, PCOS sufferers need more exercise than the average person-great (much sarcasm). Sorry for being negative, I feel very defeated today. I could use some helpful advice from anyone here. Thanks!
  • The reason I have read for more exercise is the fact that your body produces way too much insulin and there is no where for it to go. So exercise helps burn off the excess. I wish I could just totally cut carbs and sugars out of my life...but even after being on a strict phase 1 for like a month, I give in at the first temptation. It is just horrible...
  • I feel the same way about exercise.....like GREAT! LOL! My reason is because my feet hurt all the time. I have rheumatoid arthritis and also have osteoarthritis and bunions in my feet....sounds lovely huh? LOL! Just walking for over 10 minutes hurts but I'm going to have make myself. The rest of my body needs it. I'm looking into buying some Zumba DVDs as salsa dancing looks like a fun way to lose weight
