Tips on dealing with intense sugar cravings
The metformin honeymoon has worn off. For the first month+ it completely removed my sugar cravings. I had no desire for sugar at all. My PMS disappeared almost like magic and I completely stopped biting my nails. It was an amazing 6-ish weeks.
Long story short, those awful sugar cravings are back and so is the PMS. :cry: So I'm going to have to learn to manage this. Please share some ideas. I do try to match carbs to protein and we generally eat whole sprouted or soaked grains for grain-type carbs. No white flour stuff in the house and no sugar stuff either. Until the sugar cravings hit - strong enough to even drive me out of bed and across town to buy custard or a brownie... The kind of craving where you think you will literally go insane if you don't get some chocolate or something. There has got to be a better way to live life. |
Grain-type Carbs, would be the reason why I suspect you're having these cravings for sugar. Carbs in itself usually makes me want to indulge in something sweet.
Personally I'd recommend indulging in something sweet. But to make sure it's worth the indulgence. Dark Chocolate perhaps? Something rich so that a little bit will really be enough just to curb that 'sweet' cravings. Love, Anonymia |
I'm still figuring that one out. It helps not to have that sort of stuff in the house.
But there are certain times of the month where I get OBSESSED with sweets and it isn't TOM, but ovulation time. Fruit smoothies help, and at least I'm getting some fruit in. A. |
The only way I can get control of my sweet cravings is to go completely clean for a while, like similar to phase one of south beach.
It's tough. Lately I have been having sugar free fudgesicles. Of course then mixing metformin with low carving makes me nauseated 24/7. |
Try fruits, dark chocolate, sugar free ice cream or candy at least when its near TOM. I do protein vs carb balance and it works for me. Good luck :)

The worst of the cravings are definitely hormonal as mentioned. OV and TOM. The rest are usually manageable.
