Newbie needing advice!
So it seems that although I've been seeing the same OB the last four years, I think that he's kind of jerking me around as far as treatment goes with my PCOS. I actually see his NP, who is AMAZING, but they seem to have the same scheme.
I've been on Yaz for over two years now, and have had some successes with it. (More so than other BC to help regulate AF) But, when I was tested for PCOS, they ran a battery of bloodwork, and said that my testosterone level was 19-20, which is EXTREMELY higher than it should be. I thought that they would have at least suggested another medication to help lower it or something, or even seeing an Endochronologist to discuss options. I'm still not having anywhere near normal cycles, they range from 35 days up to even 49 days. None of this seems like anything out of the ordinary to my doc though, but it concerns me that he doesn't seem to be concerned. I don't know if I'm sounding paranoid or not, I know that having PCOS means that my levels are going to be out of whack, but shouldn't there be some other type of regulation other than just Metformin and Yaz that could be thrown in the mix? I have insurance and can easily go and see an Endo, but I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't sounding crazy. And again, thank you ladies for your help :D |
yeah. spironolactone.

yes, my testosterone was way high too, right away my endo put me on spiro, like sws19 mentioned...I am now on 100mgs daily but sometimes think I need more, I think you can go as high as 200...
I would definitely go see an endo Carri |
I know how you feel- it's like my doctor had me on 1000 mg of met and 25 mg of spironolactone. So I told her after two years I felt nothing- my face is still hairy- and I feel nothing from the met except for nausea lately. She said she didn't want to up my levels- I told her fine I'm not wasting my money anymore and since then have been off the meds. Now I'm not telling you to get off the meds- but with feeling like vomitting daily, and then not seeing any change in hair growth- I just got tired of the meds.
Funny thing is when I got off the met I lost another pound and since then no more nausea and it even seems the hair growth isn't so bad- I don't know how that makes sense- but I'm guessing with trying to follow "The PCOS diet" as closely as I can- I've been able to control things that way. You can buy the book at amazon for like less than $10 I believe :) It's a blue and yellow book. Anyways- if you feel you need to see an endo- then do so. I'm sure they can help. I have a coworker on 2000 mg of met and 200 of spirono. She gave me her doctor's information and I figure if I keep losing weight and I'm still having a hair problem I'll either go see her doctor and get back on spirono (or if I'm rich get laser hair removal lol). |
I think that I will check into seeing one. I've been wanting to, regardless of the PCOS because there are other things that I want monitored as well. Thanks so much for the advice! Does it matter whether or not the Endo is a specialist in PCOS?
