PCOS Definition:

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) – A genetically-linked hormonal imbalance that prevents ovulation. PCOS also may cause overproduction of estrogen, abnormal thickening of the uterine lining, very heavy and/or irregular periods, as well as acne and facial hair. The latter are caused by an overproduction of male hormones, including testosterone. -- There are tons of info out there on the web, so if you want more info, just go to your favorite search engine (Google, Yahoo, etc) and type in PCOS. Another great site (besides this one of course :) for info is: Soul Cysters. Also here are a couple links for Forum Abbreviations: Basic Forum Abbreviations and the TTC/Infertility Abbreviations

So please come and join us, won't you? If you or someone you know has PCOS and you want support in WL and just general everyday support, please come and join us. You do not have to necessarily have to be TTC or not TTC. I am currently not TTC, but if you are, then that is wonderful too. If you do not have PCOS and maybe are just curious about the disease, then feel free to join us as well. Everybody is Welcome!! :)

Good September morning! Sassy, I like your tag you posted on the August forum that said I AM STRONGER THAN PCOS. That's a good mantra.

Well, we'll see if September fares better than August. On the bright side of things, I maintained. Yippee! My main goal for September is to take my fish oil and chelated chromium regularly, and to reduce my carb and dairy intake. And exercise more regularly. (Sprinkles prayer dust on left ankle)

Right now Louisiana is being pounded by Gustav, and my prayers go out to all of them. There are some really sad stories about people that didn't leave, and I can't imagine their fear right now.

WOW, September already! My main goal for this month is to get back on track. I am going to get back on to my clean eating. I felt so much better when I was doing that, and lost fairly well.

September is always a busy month for me. There are tons of family birthdays, not including my own. That will be the biggest temptation, all the cake and ice cream. My biggest motivation are my kids. I want to be healthy not only for myself, but for them.

My prayers are also with all of the people that are and will be affected by Gustav.

Happy September!

Well good news, the new girl at work who just started yesterday is very nice and we just gab and gab and gab...........;)

Bad news........I had a pain in my left side earlier, under my rib cage and felt there and there is a hard lump??? So now I am worried about that. :stress:

Jen -- Ya I saw that and had to post it here. I love it! :) WTG on the maintaining! :bravo: I think I am doing well in cutting down on my portions, infact my appetite is almost gone completely!!! But I do eat, even if its only a small bit. ;)

Xray -- I have a book ordered for clean eating and I need to get on the ball...............I want this weight gone by next year this time, or at least most of it! lol. :carrot:

We can do it girls!!! :cheer: :cheer2:

Sassy- I completely agree, I need to get going with it. No more messing around. I want to be healthy.

Hello! I'm new(er) here, but here nonetheless.

I started my journey with the diet I'm on just over 3 weeks ago and have lost more weight than I have by controlling carbs and exercising my brains out for a year. I feel like I'm cheating somewhat by going on the Dr. Bernstein diet... but it's actually working. It's been tough to stay on the strict diet (especially in the beginning) but I'm into the groove of things now so it's not as bad.

So .. my goals for the remainder of the year are to:
1. get the weight off
2. find ways to maintain this
3. keep exercising (just joined a rowing team so this should help)
4. try to get to know some of you here.. I've been doing it alone for so long.. it's nice to finally find a community of people "stronger than PCOS" :)

Hi Girls. I added our "Motto" to the First Welcome Post in this thread. :bravo:

Jennifer 3FC 09-09-2008 09:08 AM

Wow, we're a chatty bunch this month.

Something I was thinking about this morning is how I want to look at Christmas this year. Oh, and yesterday's thought was the Valerie Bertinelli commercial for Jenny Craig last year. She said that was the last year she'd ever wake up on New Years Day and think about her weight. It's coming up soon!

hopefully 09-09-2008 10:01 PM

So tomorrow I have a weigh in.. my goal is that I'm supposed to be between 168-171lbs. I really hope I fall in there somewhere, but I have a sneaking suspicion it might not happen. I'm dying to hit below the 170lb mark. It's been a number of years since I've been there - maybe 5 or so. Anxious.. anxious.. anxious.

Sassy_Chick 09-09-2008 10:52 PM

Hi All.

Well after tonight, its one week until my vacation. :carrot:

I haven't been eating much at all........I just can't eat a lot. Its really irritating my DH, but I can't help it, I eat until I am full, then I stop..........

Well I hope you all are doing well!

hopefully 09-10-2008 12:49 PM

Bleh - I hate when I'm right. I weighed in at 171.6. Why does there have to be a .6?

xraygirl 09-10-2008 01:42 PM

I have really been trying to get motivated and get back on track. These past few weeks have been difficult. I have started back this week, hopefully I will see some improvements with my eating. My birthday is coming up and I asked my DH for a mini trampoline for a gift. I really hope I get it. I figured that will be a good way to start excercising since it won't be so hard on my joints. I have terrible knees from years of playing sports. I hope everyone else it doing great.

Sassy_Chick 09-13-2008 08:21 AM

Hi All, I hope your all having a great Saturday! :)

I am back again. This month I am going to
1.concentrate on eating clean,
2.control carbs and fat,
3.take my meds and chromium,
4.go to the pool at least 6 times
5.get some info on rates for a couple of the local gyms.

Girlie 09-14-2008 11:49 PM

HI Ladies - Was hoping perhaps I can join in?

I love the goals to set for the month, though it's almost halfway over!

For the rest of the month, I'd like to:

1) get more veggies in my diet
2) continue to gym it 5-6 days a week
3) quantitative goal = 215lbs. We'll see!

I was diagnosed with PCOS six years ago. I was put on metformin, glucophage and one called Spironolactone...for the unwanted hair. But in the end, I really didn't see any difference after a year - I really don't like taking drugs. I gained a good 20-25 pounds just since then and I'm just at the point now where I weighed 6 years ago when I was diagnosed.

Well, my 30th birthday is December 12th. My goal is to be in ONEderland by then. If I keep working the way I have since April, I can achieve that. At that time, I also need to renew my driver's license and the weight on my license is 180, hahah! But I want to be closer to that, so I'm not lying so much!

I'll update with my workout tomorrow. Sundays are my exercise days off. I typically gym it Monday-Friday, most Saturdays. My husband made killer cabbage with italian sausage today, it was amazing and that's what I've eaten for lunch and dinner. Great stuff!

Girlie
