alli

Hey I just saw that commercial for alli. I wanted to know if anyone was on that or if anyone really think it works? :?:

I wanted to try it so I picked up a brochure first. It said to consult with a doctor first if you've ever had gallbladder problems. I had my gallbladder remover about two years ago. I also heard that if you dont follow a healthy diet low in fats then you go to the bathroom alot.

I haven't tried it but I did see that there is a doctor's guide book that you can purchase along with the meds.

You have to make sure that you reduce your fat intake to less than 15 grams per meal from what I have heard that i blocks 25% of the fat intake. When you break it down... if you stick to 60 grams of fat per day it will block 15 grams which is about 135 calories. That is allowing 15 grams per meal and an extra 15 for snacks.

Personally, I have enough digestive issues from the meds I take for PCOS to make a choice to suffer side effects such as anal leakage.

If you try it, understand that it is a tool and you still need to learn to eat better and exercise in order to lose weight.l

I've seen arguments both ways. There is an Alli thread in the General Diet Plans forum if you want to have a look.

I agree with irisheyes. Supplements like this are intended to assist you in losing weight, not do it for you. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not saying you're looking for an easy way or anything, but just be careful not to be dependant on a pill. I did that years ago and gained all the weight I had lost plus some after I quit buying my magic pills.

it will *keep you honest* about ow much fat you consume....My daughter lost 50# on the prescription version Xenical....but she went to the gym 4-5X aweek and did cardio/wts....it took her about 6-7 months. it's a shame that she didn't learn to eat properly afterwards...and gained back with pizza and burgers. I hope shw remembers how good she felt...and tries again, seriously!

Marbleflys: Do you recommend it?

I've been on the precription version (Xenical) for nearly 3 weeks now and I can honestly say its been a wonderful tool for me. Before I was struggling on a low-fat/low-cal diet - trying hard with minimal results. Sticking to the same food choices has seen my weightloss sky-rocket - 7lb in the first two weeks when I was struggling with 1/2-1lb a week.

I stick to the 45g of fat per day (as I was doing anyhow) and have had little side-effects. I had minor bowel issues the day after eating oily fish (salmon) but nothing overly concerning. I'm praying this will continue and my body will not just adjust (as it seems to do on the low-calorie diet alone.

I'm not saying it will work for everyone but is for me.

yes, i do think it's worth trying....if your insurance covers the scrip. version it is less expensive....mine cost $5.00 for 90 pills...like i said, it keeps you honest about what you eat, or you will spend the day in the bathroom.

as soon as i get my current bloodwork-up back, i'm going to ask my doctor about Xenical..i go next week to determine the reason why I can't seem to lose no matter how hard i work at it.
