non fasting insulin level

Hey everyone, I have a question. A few months ago I went to the Dr. because I was having some spotting in between my cycles. (we have since figured out why this was happening and it was due to another medication that I am on) She did a LH, FSH, Glucose, and Insulin test to rule out polycystic ovaries. Everything came back normal except for the insulin level. It was 26. So she told me I have insulin resistance. I have done some research and found that a normal insulin level is between 0-20. What I'm confused about is that I had eaten before my doctors appt that day. My doctor did not tell me she was going to draw these labs, and I did tell her I had eaten that day. Do you think that could be why my insulin was too high? Or do you think its too high even with eating? I cant seem to find a normal level anywhere for a non-fasting insulin level... please help!

Mandi :)

Did your dr base the dx on just that one lab result? If so, I would question it. Maybe she was looking at historical results along with this one to come to that conclusion. Your best bet is to asked to be tested again. Also, she may have been looking at physical characterisitcs along with that lab result to come to that conclusion. There are outward signs that some people develop with insulin resistance.

I would ask her to check it again at the next appt and keep a record of it!

Did she also check your blood sugar?
