Shake Based Diet Comparison

  • I am a regular diet failure. I am picky in my eating, have 5 kids at home full time with their snacks and teenage eating habits, work from home, and hate to cook. I need a plan that is simple, and works on the go and at home. I think the best choice for me is probably a shake based plan, the problem is which one to choose.
Can anyone give me some pros and cons or comparisons of the shake plans out there. I am mostly looking at medifast vs herbalife but would like other ideas as well.

    Thank you
  • i am currently doing Slimfast ive done it before but its been a while.

im on day 3 so far............im finding it okay but i am feeling mega hungry late on.
    i hoping that will change

u see its all bout the control factor for me , and portion control thats my weakness, ive done sw and recently done WW for weeks and didnt shift a pound. So for me slimfast even just done for breakfast is gaining control and when u wana treat at weekend or special occassion u know u can
  • I have done SF in the past. It was quick, easily accessible and pretty cheap. I still enjoy the cappuccino one every once in a while. Especially after it has been in the freezer for a while.

Like many, I often felt the hunger associated with a liquid diet. With trial and error I learned that adding benefiber to a higher protein shake worked much better!
  • I recommend **********. To be thrifty, I'd do one ********** and then one slimfast.
  • I'm doing Optifast, and doing very well on it. It's not cheap, though, and your mileage may vary. It is a very restrictive program, in that you only drink 5 shakes a day, and I believe it's only available by prescription. However, I'm the type of person who thrives when there are strict rules - if I cannot eat food, I won't; I just cannot cheat while on this program. Not only because all food is off-limits, but the shakes themselves are pretty expensive. The shakes don't taste that great, but you can add sugarfree syrups to them to make them taste better, and you're allowed to still have coffee, tea, gum, diet soda, basically anything zero calorie.

What I really like about my Optifast program is that the clinic I'm doing it in makes us have weekly group meetings with a counselor to discuss weight and diet issues, and you also weigh in (privately). It keeps you motivated and focused.

One word of advice, though, is that once you're off the program, like all diets, it's very easy to gain the weight back on. You have to be careful to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • I agree with what Cel said about gaining the weight back- I lost about 10 LB right before my wedding on Slimfast and then almost immediately gained it back. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the honeymoon cruise...

Slim-fast has, or as of a few months ago had, a really nice website with meal and snack ideas. One thing to pay attention to is that they emphasize having a morning and afternoon snack as well as your shake- so that should help mitigate some of the hungry.
