Wow. Excellent. A major milestone is just week away, huh?
Had a bloggie pal just celebrate a 100 lb loss. It's amazing. Hope to be at 100 lbs lost next year.

I was 267.0 on Jan 2010. I was about the same at the beginning of June (lost no real weight). I added WS and now I'm 251.0 as of yesterday's weigh-in. So, in four months, I've lost 16 lbs, which is more than I normally would struggle to lose in a whole year, and it's not been a huge struggle. I only look to lose 1 to 1.4 lbs a week (I've set a two-year goal to reach 160 lbs). I want to actually change my total lifestyle, so I've given myself plenty of time. I have no desire to be a regainer, and every time I've tried to lose it fast, I also regained it fast.
I have not returned to my high weight of 299 lbs (2004), so very slow has been fine for me. Hopefully, my skin can adapt a bit more going slowly than if I dropped in crash diets.
I know these are not wholesome foods. WS is a Frankenfood sort of diet (lots of additive, preservatives, some too high in sugars, etc). HOwever, the added protein really calms my appetite, and I add plenty of organic veggies and fruits (less fruit than I ate in the past, when I'd easily eat 5 to 6 fruits a day or more) and organic dairy and take my supplements.
I think the ease and calorie-controlled way to get the protein is what makes it most valuable to me. But this is not a way to eat for life, so I know I have to learn how to balance convenience/Frankenfoods with real food and smaller portions.
I have learned some portion control using these. I mean, the servings are tiny and it teaches me to extend--I add veggies to all the entrees to make them BIGGEr than the tiny serving to fill me up. Spinach, broccoli, broccolini, zucchini, tomatoes, onion, mushrooms, peppers, eggplant, and I use plenty of side salads. I also add healthy oils (EVOO, coconut, Smart Balance) to make sure my hair and skin are not adversely affected. I add cinnamon to the hot cakes for improving my insulin resistance. I add garlic to most stuff cause, well, garlic is good for me. I add lime or lemon to some fruit drinks for vitamin C. I add Almond Breeze or organic milk (1/4 to 1/2 cup) to the shakes to up the calcium, protein, potassium, and taste.
And I take at least 10 grams of fiber supplementation a day to keep the regularity.
So, while I'm a slow loser on purpose, I wanted to remind the strict adherers to WS (which means you should lose pretty fast, 2, 3+ pounds a week), to eat plenty of vegetables, eat your fruit, and make the most of your Lean/Green daily meal to get nutrients and stay in touch with "real" food.
And like the other advice here, be careful of the snack bars that are the more "junk/sugar-laden" ones and the higher-carb meals, cause they can set your appetite up again. Save the treat for the time of day when you tend to want that treat most (for me, it's nighttime after dinner when I really want that treat and when I would used to tend to binge.) You know best when you get the cravings for the sweet or carby treat.

Great post!
I am using WS, not as a product for the rest of my life, but more as a matter of convenience as well as helping me get out of my portion distortion! Just in the last couple of days I am starting to remember what it was like when I first started Weight Watchers years ago and small things are starting to click again, like I had my aha moment.
I did very well with WW until death, depression, divorce and injury sidetracked me. I was in my mid 20s without all the responsibility I have now. Right now I just do not have the time to prepare 3 meals a day. WS is helping me find things that not only I can have to be healthy, but my family as well. We have some new cookbooks and found some new things to try.
My goal is to get as close to my goal weight as possible on my one. Since I am a lifetime member, meetings are free for me so long as I am within 5lbs of my goal. I have every intention of making it once a month for the lifetimer weigh in. Hoping that will keep me in line. Right now I just do not want to pay the weekly fee, even the reduced lifetime fee. Plus the meetings are about 20-30min from me. With work and school I just do not have much free time. Once I get to goal, I should be graduated!
New Lifestyle gave me a personal coach, which I plan to make the most of as well as a 6 week Maintenace program they offer when you reach goal.

Question:
So far I am not really a huge fan of the snack bars. I have tried 3 now. While they are not terrible, they are rather dry and the chocolate does not really have any flavor.
I was wondering if perhaps I could substitute it for a boiled egg for protein and perhaps a cup of greens, like a salad.
I am sure I could find a comparable protein bar at GNC or someplace, but I would rather use real food, especially food already on hand.
Thoughts?

I am not sure if anyone is interested in this, but this company sells the NL/WS under the name 123EasyGoDiet (Diet Health and Sport Brand) and they have a 4wk starter kit for $239. Their is a regular one and a Aspartame Free on.
Free shipping, free journal and guide, free 20oz shaker cup, and more. I believe DD/WW is now $260.10 after all the discounts. New Lifestyle is $273 with no coupons. I generally get coupons which made them cheaper than DD, but they do not have all of the same products.
They have a pasta variety pack for $10.95 for 7 packs. Might be good for someone who wants to try before they buy a whole box.
Orders over $20 get free samples and they have a pretty good list to choose from.
I also so a 10% off orders over $150
They also offer lowest price guarantee over other sites that sell similar products. For the most part it looks like the all pretty much run the $9 range like DD. They do have a lot of the same products as WS/NL but I saw a few I had not seen before.
Might be worth it for someone.
123EasyGoDiet: http://mydietshopz.com/12kitdiheand.html
This company offers their 4wk kit for $199.99 free shipping. You are allowed to substitute items if you don't like something, just call or email with special instructions according to the website. Looks like they offer the same things the others do, just under a different label. Most of the things I have looked at run only a few cents cheaper than others, but still around the $9 range. They have a couple of different flavors I do not remember seeing elsewhere. They also offer the guarantee to beat any other website price. DD 12wk is $594.15 with discounts, this company has a 12wk for $569.
Order $149 or more and Save 10%!
Use Coupon Code instant10 during checkout.
Order $349 or more and Save 15%!
Use Coupon Code instant15 during checkout.
They have a coupon/discount section for other an order over $700 as well.
http://shop.doctorsbestweightloss.co...-Kit-1MOKT.htm
Again, these might be worth it for someone looking to stock up, or have a cheaper alternative. I am by no means promoting them! I know the economy is rough and we all need some help here and there. And it is always nice to find something cheaper if you can't find a coupon!
Obviously their are differences where DD has a few more boxes per shipment, but they sell individual boxes for 9.99 on sale at times for 8.50. These places are going $9.00 to $9.98, might still be good for those who only buy a few boxes.

Do you like toaster strudels or pop tarts?
I have had them, but wasn't a big eater of them.
New Lifestyle offered a Iced Cinnamon breakfast square/protein pastry. Warm in in micro for 20 seconds, pair with some hot tea and its just like a coffee house breakfast. Yum! Just like a toaster strudel as far as taste, look, feel, and icing. But the consistency of a pop tart. This is something I will buy again! I did not see it on the DD site (they have the brand, just not that product, but it is stated that the products they do have is no longer available from the manufacturer.), so I am not sure where else to get them. The box is not like NL or WS.
The copyright brand on the box is Promedis, with a New Lifestyle Label. LOL
A product of Toronto Canada.
I am really pleased with these.

And how about your sodium? Those are key things to watch and include in your daily breakdown posts. Eventually they'll help you figure out your own "sweet spot" for weight loss.
Also, be careful about the number of sweet/dessert-like replacements you're using each day. I only include one "dessert" each day (by dessert I mean pudding, cheesecake or chocolate cake). These products don't have as high a nutrient content as things like the pudding shakes, smoothies, or crispy bars, for example.
Typically I do a smoothie or pudding shake along with a breakfast entree in the morning (oatmeal, pancake, or crispy bar). For lunch I do an entree (chili, joe, cheesesteak pasta, nacho cheese pasta, etc.) and a protein snack bar. For snack I do one of the snack items (pretzels, double crunch crackers, Cinna crunch, dry cereal, hot chocolates, crunch o's, etc.). For dinner I either do another entree and pudding shake, or a "lean and green" meal. And for dessert I do one of the puddings or cakes. If you're doing the optional dairy, starch, fruit, etc. you could easily add those items in throughout your day, too.
Hope this helps you out a bit as you work to figure out the perfect plan for you.

Thanks Jen.
I am using My Fitness Pal to keep track of my calories. I use it online as well as my phone.
The only thing I went over totals was sodium and I half expected it with the sodium count thats in some of these things.
MFP has me on a 1600 Calorie Plan based on my weight.
I did not realize that the shake/pudding that are flavor cream are meal replacements where the fun flavor ones are actually protein supplements. So I ended up with 5 of those instead of 3 and not enough meal replacements. I am still trying to get the hang of it.
I got another coupon from New Lifestyle so I ordered a box of Chicken Soup, which is plain like the Tomato and they count as a Meal Replacement so that will help with having pudding overload. I was going to get some soups from DD but most of theirs are in the Protein supplement category and I did not need any more proteins! I also ordered a box of Vegetable Bean Soup (Minestrone) which is a Protein, but I wanted to break up the repetition of the different pastas I ordered.

Mirtika: Thanks for sharing your own personal story with us. I am curious, if you don't mind me asking, is there a medical reason that you know of behind your very slow losses in the past? I agree that a slow loss of 1 to 1.5 pounds a week is a very reasonable and maintainable goal, but, obviously, even with you just trying to lose 1 pound a week in the past you technically should have lost closer to 50 pounds a year. Regardless, I'm so pleased to hear that you're making that pound a week progress you've been looking for since incorporating the WS (and like) products into your diet.
You know, I agree 100% with you about the use of what I deem "non-food" or "frankenfood" products. In fact, I really resisted using supplements when I began working with my doctor, who, interestingly enough is also against the use of these foods...under "normal" circumstances. But in her 25+ years of practice and expertise in the world of obesity and weight loss issues, she, too, has learned that there is a time and a place for them. The fact that they do offer nutritionally balanced, portion-controlled, quick and easy options to folks like us who are suffering from obesity and related malladies, makes them worthwhile. They afford us the opportunity to set all excuses aside and to learn something about real portion sizes while keeping us satiated (thanks to their low carb, high protein counts) and motivated as a result of consistent losses. (Something it seems you're now experiencing yourself.) There is also a place for them in our maintenance plans, as she's explained to me: they can be used in a pinch (they're still better than hitting the McDonald's drive thru when traveling), and they can help us get back on track if we see the scale creeping up in the wrong direction. She even uses them herself in these cases, and has maintained her own 25 pound weight loss for over five years now. In short, she practices what she preaches.
I fully intend, once I hit my goal weight, to use WS products only in certain circumstances, and to go back to my diet of exclusively local and organic lean proteins along with fruits and veggies, and a small dose of healthy fats. BUT for now, this is what I need. And my own personal experience has proven that mixing the two plans doesn't work nearly as effectively for weight loss as sticking to just one or the other. For me, the use of supplements is taking the weight off at a decent pace, I'm enjoying the food, and I know that I have the rest of my life to eat all of the "real" food that I want.
Great advice on the fiber supplementation, by the way. This is something I watch, as well. As I've mentioned, I tally up all my nutrients each day based on the food selections I chose and adjust my fiber and potassium supplementation accordingly. You definitely want to keep things moving in the right direction!
Best of luck to you in your newest efforts. I look forward to hearing more about your experiences as you continue your journey.

Which snack bars are you referring to? The chocolate bar-like ones? And which flavors have you tried so far? I'm a huge fan of these in general as they are my sweet treat of the day, but some flavors are definitely better than others.
I don't actually recommend you substitute the bars with a boiled egg and greens. You have to remember that the products are really formulated to be used with one another. When you start using real food you're going to end up higher than you need to be on some nutrients and lower on others. (Unless you're tracking EVERY detail of everything you're eating and are willing to spend the necessary energy to find comparable, and nearly identical substitutions. Trust me, I've done it, and it is HARD. It started taking up so much of my time and energy I eventually started letting slide, which led to getting further off plan, and resulted in MUCH slower losses, etc.) And, to that point, I don't encourage using other bars either (as they're usually MUCH higher in calories and sugars/sugar alcohols). Truth is, most protein bars in general are junk food disguised as something healthier.
Really, I'd suggest you either try a different flavor of bar, or just swap it out for another WS supplement that you prefer. No reason you can't just have an extra shake, or a crispy bar, or snack item in lieu of it. But at least then you'll be keeping your nutrients better aligned.

Interesting! I'd noticed these on the NL website and was very intrigued, but because they're not Robard products, I couldn't find any information on them. Glad to hear they're so tasty! Maybe they're something that other companies will begin to carry in time, if they don't carry Promedis items already. Thanks for sharing your review and the extra info on them!

I was actually starting to think that after I had posted that. I knew that all these diet meals were made to work with each other. I am still trying to figure everything out. I don't *hate* the bars. I am not sure really what I think of them. So far I have tried 4 I think. I do like that they fill you up right in the middle of the day since I have a harder time in the later part of the day. I can just see myself getting bored of these bars, unless I find a super yummy one. The ones I have tried are doable, they just make me do the *got milk?* thing. LOL so then I drink a huge bottle of water.
I tried a peanut butter crisp bar, butter toffee bar and a chocolate peanut butter. I do plan to try all of them. I am not giving up on this after 1 sample day, then 3 full days!!!
You have been so helpful, thank you!!

I did end up finding the company website, but they wanted you to call for information. No thanks. I see DD has that brand, but not that product and all the other websites I saw that had the brand said the same thing as the DD did and that the manufacturer was out of them. Or something to that. I hope they do not discontinue these gems. That little thing was quite tasty and filling.

Totally happy to help! Navigating all this stuff can be SO confusing. I know I would've loved to have had someone experienced to help me at the start of my journey. Thankfully I at least had my doc and nutritionists, but it's still different than talking to someone who's actually done the plan for a year or more. So please, if you have questions, don't ever hesitate to ask. If I can help you I definitely will!
So the PB snack bars are definitely a bit drier than some of the others. That being said, I especially love the PB crisp one, which reminds me of a Butterfinger. A couple other ones you might try: the cookie dough one isn't dry at all, and neither are the oatmeal raisin, or the carmel brownie and carmel butter pecan ones. The chocolate mint is a bit drier but it's like a Girl Scout thin mint, as is the lemon crisp which tastes just like a lemon cooler cookie. Divine! The coconut tastes like a Girl Scout Samoa cookie, if you like those, too. And the cookies and cream is one of the driest of all...but tastes a lot like an Oreo.
Hopefully this gives you a bit of an idea of what to expect from the others and maybe you'll find a couple you really like. If not, like I said, you can always substitute a different supplement entirely. (But, I've got to tell you, I LOVE having one of these once a day. I usually have it with my lunch and always feel like I'm cheating because I'm eating a candy bar! )

Good morning everyone! So, how were your weekends?! We had great weather up here in Cleveland. It was in the high 60s/low 70s and while the sun was out yesterday it was beyond gorgeous. Perfect day for lots of walking and enjoying the fall color. I really do love the fall up here. So beautiful!
This morning I saw some very good news: 155.8 on the scale! That means I have now lost 80 pounds! (Yes, that's me, doing my happy dance! ) Just 21 more pounds to go. But I think for today I'm just going to relish in that new number/milestone!
Hope you're all having a great Monday!

CONGRATS Jen on hitting 80!!! That's AWESOME!!!! So proud of you!!
Meg - I finally did Netflix on my wii a few weeks ago - it's pretty groovy huh!! We just watched Catch & Release over the weekend - a GREAT chik flik!! Not sure if it's an instant play or not though...Haven't done Hulu yet on there, but have watched it some on the Laptop. I've thought about giving up cable/home phone and keeping only internet too - it's gonna be REALLY hard to give up DVR'ing my fav shows - American Idol, Secret Life and DWTS...and Hubs loves The Colony and American Pickers...Probably can see some that stuff on Hulu though...need to find out for sure.
Had a super crappy day yesterday - nothing went right it seemed - although I know it's PMS and any other time it wouldn't have been a huge deal...but GOSH dontcha just hate days like that!!! I think my Mom started it off for me - before I even realized it was PMS...she made these Cookie Dough truffles (we got the recipe from the cooking show last Thurs night) so she brought us some "samples" and as she was handing me the bag said, "now YOU can only have one of these"...OMG...really...I just looked at her and said, "NOPE, I'm gonna eat'em all" and walked away! I thought about putting them into another baggie and returning the empty to her and saying yummm...those were great...but I didn't. Then at lunch (we had a bday lunch for my neice) my Dad commented on the plate of food Mom had (have no idea why he did) but she was putting a big spoonful of chicken spaghetti on her plate and Dad said, "you gonna eat all that"...she got pissy and raked it all back into the dish and marched into the dining room with about 2 TB of food on her plate...she was sooo mad at him...I said, "hmmm welcome to my world - the world of the food police, YOU can't have this - YOU can't eat that - YOU can only have 1 of these"...wonder if it sank in to her??? I hated yesterday and am SO glad today is a new day! I still have a hormonal rage going on - but maybe since I'm in my office all alone it'll pass smoothly!
