Default My first post

Hi everyone,
I'm new here. Not new to overeating or binge eating though. I'm in that vicious cycle of dieting myself bigger.
About a year ago I had a breakdown then was diagnosed with depression.
Sigh.
I've read a few posts so far and believe this is a good place for me to be.
I'm going back to read some more.

Question

I like what you said about dieting yourself bigger. I can identify. Also, I am a binge eater. I can eat everything in the kitchen and then not eat for days. Sometimes I only eat one thing...like cream cheese or donuts and nothing else sounds good to me.
Is anyone else like that?

Teri

Welcome, Maly!
I'm so sorry about the depression. I've suffered from it for many years, and can relate. Hang in there, and know that we're here for you.

Hi, Maly! I totally can relate. Have you read anything by Geneen Roth? She's fabulous, and believes in not dieting. I think her theories might mesh well with OA. She writes very humorously and is easy to read, but her books have serious kernels of truth.

I'm with you on the depression. You know, eating many foods can help raise your levels of seratonin and such and thus reduce your depression. Therefore, if you get your depression under control with meds or therapy, you may have less of a desire to binge. I know I've found that to be the case.

Here's a website I found that fits the "no dieting" idea.

http://www.normaleating.com/

I too have dieted my way up from 140 to 274 (well 234 now). Shoulda stayed at the 140 I do find it easier if I keep some substances out of my body, like alot of sugar.
