New here!

  • Hi all!

I'm Penelope I'm new to OA.

I will be attending my first OA meeting in my hometown soon, and I was wondering if I need to call the contact person first and let them know that I'm coming?

I really hope that OA will prove to be a part of my first truly successful attempt at getting bingeing out of my life for good.

    Hi Penelope!
    Welcome.

It would absolutely be appropriate to call the contact person first and might also keep you accountable for actually going to the meeting.

Congratulations and we hope you find serenity, peace, and abstinence in those rooms.

Even though you might not like everyone, hopefully you'll come to love us in a very special way. The same way we already love you.

    ~Alexis
  • Thanks, Alexis That is very sweet of you!

I'll definitely give them a call!
  • Penelope- another good thing about calling ahead is to get the best info on where the meeting is. It may be at a church, but what room, how to find ,etc. Also, depending on the size of the meeting and who happens to be there, you may not get the warm fuzzy feeling right away. Just try to remember that even when our stories are different we all are dealing with the same disease. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
  • Thanks, tommy! I'll update you all after my first meeting!
