Default New to OA - food plans?

Hi everyone,

I hope it would be ok for me to join your group? I attended my first OA meeting this past Tuesday and it was such a blessing. I'd had a really great weekend and then all of a sudden "feel off the wagon" a couple of days ago. I am still trying to figure out how to work each step, but I'm also learning about food plans. I don't yet have a sponsor and would like to get one, but for now I was wondering if you might be able to tell me a bit more about whether or not my food plan is ok?

I know OA suggests having only 3 meals a day, but I find that if I eat 4-5 I am eating every 2.5-3 hours and this way I never let myself get really hungry. If I do go too long without eating I find myself gorging...so I try to stick to 4-5 meals a day. Also, I eat pretty much the same thing every day but it's not always exact. Is that ok?

Here is an example of how I normally eat:

Breakfast - 1/3 c. oats + 1/2 c. Fiber One, 1 TB natural PB, 1/2 cup egg whites.

Snack - Protein shake made with 1 scoop protein powder & 1/3 cup oats.

"Lunch" - Protein pancakes (cottage cheese, oats, egg whites) or 1/3 cup of oats, scoop of protein powder and some PB.

"Dinner" - This varies a lot - I always have a salad with 1 oz fat free feta cheese and then some kind of protein.

I pretty much only eat oatmeal as my carb and I always have a salad with veggies for dinner...sometimes I have fruit during the day. I exercise a lot and have an active job, so I find that eating at regular intervals helps with this. My problem is usually dinner - I got tired of eating a piece of chicken and vegetables every night and I found that I was bingeing after dinner...so now I at least try to keep it to something I enjoy. Is this ok?

I do tend to eat the same thing all day, which is what I think OA suggests, but dinner varies. This seems to go against OAs suggestions for meal plans though?

Sorry this was so long...thanks for your help!

Hello Hope,
Welcome to this site. Remember a food plan is just one tool of OA. To develop your food plan you might try to meet with a nutritionist to get the best well rounded food plan.
You should enjoy your food plan and keep it simple. This is not a diet it is a simple plan of eating which you devise.
Make 3 lists of food groups and label them red foods, green foods and yellow foods.
Red foods are your binge foods and never have them in your home.
Green foods are healthy foods you enjoy but can enjoy one serving
Yellow foods are foods you enjoy but could potentially cause a problem and need to be monitored.
Good luck and again welcome.
