Can we do the steps on this thread?

I've been doing research on the 12 steps and would like to do something like that here. Step one is admitting that we are powerless over food. This one is easy for me, I am powerless over food. In some cases I binge and this is not good. I'm ready for a change.

Are you asking if you can share your step work on here? Absolutely.
Go to a meeting. Get a sponsor. Get the OA 12 Steps and Traditions. Get a workbook. Get busy and keep us posted.

Hey ceejay-

I'm so glad that you are here and open to working the steps. Like you, my higher power happens to be the God of Christianity.

Pg. 13 of the OA 12 & 12 states:
"OA doesn't tell us we have to believe in God-- only that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. We are invited to define that Power however we wish and relate to it in whatever way works for us. OA only suggests that we remain open to spritual growth and show tolerance for others by neither criticizing nor promoting specific religious doctrines in OA meetings.
Ours is a spiritual program, not a religious one. We have no creeds or doctrines, only our own experiences of recovery. Atheists and agnostics are welcome in OA and have found recovery."

Because this is an OA board, it's my opinion that we should stick to the OA program here. While your Christian based Lord's Table program may be very helpful to you, this is not the place to discuss it, or the fact that your God is "the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Joseph."

Here we share our OA program related experiences and struggles. We talk about program literature from OA and AA. Tradition Ten of OA is: "Overeaters Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the OA name ought never be drawn into public controversy." We don't talk bible, politics, or social issues. We talk about recovery through the steps.

ceejay-
No need to delete. It's a good reminder for all of us. We're all learning.

2-7-07 I cannot believe how much difference it has made to nourish the spirit. It's taking the focus off of the "diet" aspect of my life. My food has been clean today for the first time in awhile.

Marny if you read this I was thinking more on the lines of a chat thread. It helps me just to see that others are enduring this.

i am on step 4. although i must say i am not ready to do a moral inventory. i am going to sit down and start writing and send it in to my sponsor.

although i am not exactly sure what a moral inventory constitutes. anyones opinions are welcomed.

Hi Jaceycat,

I'm also on step 4. It is hard, but cleansing. I am anxious to finish.

I bought a Step Four Inventory guide at my meeting which has been great to help you through the inventory. If there's not one available at your meeting, you can order from the website www.oa.org

You can also find 4th Step guidance on:

*Pages 34-43 in the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonymous book and

*References pages 64-65 in the Big Book

Hope that helps.

Charlene
