PrairieQueen, your menu looks great! :hungry: I've never had dubliner cheese. Where do you get it?

Bewildered, you are too funny! Because my weight is so close now to when I took body pics last time, I might try to take some more pics today and if I do, I'll take my measurements also and compare them.

It's Kerrygold (same company that makes the butter) Dublner. I got it at Costco, but I'm sure you can get it at other places. It has a sweet, nutty flavor That reminds me of a cross between medium/sharp cheddar and a good Parmesan. Hubs and I do like our cheese :)

Wannabehealthy 08-29-2015 12:12 PM

Jacqui, I can see the pictures. I want to know if that is the same red shirt. It seems to look smaller in the more recent pics.

Your suggestion of changing one habit each week is a good idea. There is a woman on another thread doing just that right now. First she eliminated sweets, the obvious. Now she is eliminating eating after 6 PM. Trying to make big changes all at once can be hard.

Rennie, I want to come and give you a big hug!! I wish we lived close and we could do this thing together. I think your wonky work schedule is messing you up. They say that shift work is bad for your health and weight. Causes you to eat things you normally would stay away from. I know you can't do anything about that. I'm glad to hear you are getting some quality time with your daughter. I know how much that means to you. Some people tell me that the Bulletproof coffee supresses their appetite. I don't know if you can do that. It's actually the higher fat that does it, I think. Try to think of some high fat snacks that you can keep on hand. I don't do BPC because DH sleeps much later than I do and I don't want to be running the blender while he's still sleeping. Since I have started adding bacon to my morning eggs they satisfy so much more.

Mary, I am so interested in all the things you are learning. I think you will be a good nurse. I wish I had taken more interest in health and nutrition earlier in life. We don't take it serious when we're young, but when we get older and start having medical issues we wish we tried harder.

Yesterday, my grandson was complaining that he isn't allowed to have any candy that contains dye, and also only allowed to have 1 piece of chocolate per day. He does eat healthy meals, because that's the way his parents eat. I told him that when he grows up and becomes an adult he will be happy that he didn't eat a lot of junk food. I doubt if he understood that at 7. LOL

The hula hoops from the Dollar Store are basically just toys for kids. If you want to get into hula hooping you have to get the more professional hoops. They cost more, but they work the way they are supposed to. There was someone on 3FC a while back that was really into it. Not my thing.

Chickadeee, when I worked, I brought it home in my mind. I hated that. I used to dream about work. In fact, I had work dreams for a couple years after I retired, and just had one recently.

I have a huge collection of cookbooks but just a few of them are low carb. It seems that the best low carb recipes you find are online from people doing low carb diets. They are the tried and true recipes. You're lucky that your DH eat this way too. Mine does not and I have to work my recipes around his likes...something where I can leave the carbs out of my portion. That's why I usually end up with meat, veggies and a carb side dish for him.

PrairieQueen, I have a bad habit of just buying my cheese in the dairy department. Our supermarket has a huge case of every variety of cheese under the sun over in the deli department, but I rarely even look at it. DH doesn't eat much cheese but I love it. My daughter-in-law always has a lot of unusual cheeses at parties. DH's cheese consists of Velveeta and Kraft American Singles fake cheese. LOL He is not adventurous.

Hey Mars!

Dairy Fairy 08-29-2015 06:43 PM

Rennie- first off I would LOVE to be at your weight, so don't be discouraged. I have constantly been discouraged and every time I gave up I got a little bigger and bigger till now I am in bad shape!! Just keep trying every day...if you fail, just try to forgive yourself and move forward. I know when I am really hungry I need to eat less sugar in general and drink a LOT of hot tea and coffee. The hot sensation helps more than anything. I don't know if this will work for you.

Carol Sue- I am 37 but definitely seeing effects of my bad choices already. Being in nursing school has really really opened my eyes. I am also scared to death of any medication now and this will completely make me a horrible patient LOL

Y'all were right about the hula hoop- it was way too small Yes, I fit into it LOL...but apparently the big ones are easier. I went looking for another and couldn't find it. Where do they sell them again? I loved it when I was a kid. There is a really funny (raunchy) joke about hula hoops on Queens of Comedy.

Mars- we learned how to back flow piggybacks & clean central line dressings. We also got rechecked on NG tubes and foleys. I have never done one on a real human. I want to do it, but also am scared to death. Sterile gloving makes me sweat buckets!

My scale went down 1/2 lb. Now I am at 8 lbs. I know I was 9.5 but I'm having issues with wiggling around. I think Jacqui mentioned having the same problem. I added back in steps and it started moving. I hadn't done that for the last couple of weeks because I was prepping everyone for school and then trying to get started in school. I need to get mooooooving.

Chickadee- saw a great low carb recipe and thought of you...it's a tomato sauce with veggies and you crack eggs into it. It's Israeli I think, but I think there's also a Green version. I am still on my runny egg kick LOL

Prairie Queen you would not survive at my house right now. I always have cheese on hand but in a hurry I grabbed "shreds" at Dollar Tree so my taco loving son had something to stick in his tortilla without me going to the grocery store. Well, it would not melt and we looked at the word cheese was nowhere on the bag...it said "not formulated to melt". It was made of starch and oil LOL The kids were so disgusted. Gonna read more carefully in the future. I have gotten some really yummy cheese there before (it was this kind of cheddar...real cheese) in a smallish package but it had such a good flavor. They only got it the one time. I guess my luck ran out!

Jacqui_D 08-29-2015 10:57 PM

Bewildered, tell me if you can see the 2nd set of pics now. I copied it from a different page in photobucket, so I'm hoping that makes a difference. :crossed: I'm glad you finally got some rain! :cp: And I hope you are feeling better now!

Carol Sue, yes, that is the same shirt but you are very observant. :mag: I was trying to show the outline of my body better so I pulled the shirt tighter on the other side, away from the camera, just before taking each pic. I didn't do that the first time.

PrairieQueen, thanks! I'll have to check to see if either Kroger or Walmart has Kerrygold cheese where I am. :cheese: The name sounds familiar.

Mary, I didn't realize you were so young! How wonderful that you are focusing on your health early in your life! That is going to pay off!

Chickadeee, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog having allergies. My Ichabod suffers from allergies too. I've never had a pet with them before. Once we get him off the prednisone for his back/legs, the vet gave us allergy meds to continue to give to him. If it's not one thing, it's another, bless his heart! I hope your dog starts to feel better soon! :sunny:

Mars and Rennie, I hope y'all are having a great weekend!

I am going to weigh in the 190's again tomorrow! We had two birthdays to go to today: our great-niece's in one town and our grandson's in another town! We went to the casino again yesterday. We got there around 4:30 and ate the buffet. We usually gamble for a couple hours then head home. I was down to my last $1.40 and they called my name to come up and win $100 free slots play, and $50 free slots play for a friend. I ran and got DH and we went up and got it. Then they gave us a card to enter the Grand Finale drawing at 10PM, so we had to stick around. We made the free play last us until 10 and I actually brought it up to $200 to take home, but we didn't win the Grand Finale drawing. We got home so late. It's a 1 1/2 hour drive and I hate that late at night. I didn't get to bed until 1 AM, which is late for me, then I couldn't sleep because I was keyed up. I like having a couple hours to relax and wind down before bed.

I don't know if I told you about the nighttime palpitations and elbow pain I have been having for a couple days. The elbow pain has been ongoing, but the palpitations were new. Night before last I drank a bottle of water in the evening and didn't have any palpitaions and only minor pain. I tried that again last night, and no palpitations and minor pain. So I have come to the conclusion I was getting dehydrated. I tend to not drink enough water to avoid urge incontinence, but I guess I have to increase my intake.

Jacqui, I went back to look at the pictures again this morning because I wanted to see the difference in your hair length. I understand about what you did with the shirt. It looks like you also had on different pants. I do not have a Photobucket account but both links opened up right away. Maybe I didn't look at them until after you changed them. I couldn't figure out why the shirt looked tighter if you lost weight.

Mary, here is a link to a hula hoop at Walmart. They have weights in them. I didn't look closely and don't know if it's available in the store or only online, but it would probably be in the fitness department rather than toys. If you google "professional hula hoop" you will get more sites that sell them, like Amazon. Maybe they have them in sporting goods stores. Don't go into sticker shock....they are NOT $1. LOL

Edit: I just went back and looked and it includes a workout guide and DVD, so now it's more worth the $$$

I have had a couple NG tubes and hate them. So uncomfortable. One time they turned mine off and forgot to turn it back on. I started getting so nauseated. Then a different nurse came in and realized it was turned off. It was over an hour. I have also had many many foley bags. There was one male nurse who was the absolute best at inserting the catheter. I didn't even feel it. DH had a few choice words to say when I told him about it. LOL I learned a lot about nursing by being in the hospital so many times. I was never in the hospital before I was 50, then all heck broke loose!

Wannabehealthy 08-30-2015 10:51 AM

This is scary. I was just posting in a discussion about Wen, the hair cleansing conditioner. After that I went back to email, and I had an email in my spam box advertising Wen products. They sure don't miss anything, do they? LOL

Jacqui_D 08-30-2015 11:37 AM

Carol Sue. lol! Yeah, I probably should have worn the same pants and not tugged my shirt tighter. It would have helped also if I had taken a step back in the first pic, half a step back in the 2nd pic, and a couple of steps back in the 3rd pic. I look bigger simply by being closer to the mirror where I was taking the pics, but knowing exactly where to stand was hard to figure. I'd gauge it by my couch but I've moved my couch so many times since then! It's never in the exact same spot! Congrats on the big freeplay and winnings! How fun! :carrot: I'm glad to know I'm not the only one creeped out by the intense marketing online! I've had that happen too! I am so glad that your elbow and palpitations seem to get better when you drink more water! The palpitations especially are quite scary! I'm glad you're on top of it!

Bewildered, thanks! I don't know if 34" is below the danger zone or if it's under 34" that is below the danger zone, but I wish the rule was that you could suck in your tummy and pull the measuring tape tight because I could get to 32 inches if I did that, lol! :D I'm glad you can see the pics now! :cp: You don't have to add anything to the hard root beer. It's kind of along the line of Redd's Apple Ale or Mike's Hard Lemonade. We had Coney Island Hard Root Beer. A couple of family members mentioned they've had Not Your Father's Hard Root Beer before, but they both liked the Coney Island brand better because it was less "spicy" and tasted more like real root beer. Naturally, loving Dr. Pepper the way I do, I like root beer also, so I thought it was fantastic! I'm so glad you're feeling better after Carb Day!

Jacqui_D 08-30-2015 12:04 PM

Yikes! I was right! I am up 3.5 lbs after yesterday's "Birthday Party Bonanza" Carb Day! I think it's pretty safe to say I won't be reaching my goal of 186 lbs for this month, lol! Oh well! It will fall back off in the next few days and hopefully my scale will keep going down! :goodscale:

ok another 1/2 lb this morning! woohoo

Carol Sue- I have not had a Foley since I had my kids. I hope I am good at it (but not good enough they call me to do every one LOL). My instructor said that we need to always look over anatomy first because there was a lady one time that nobody could get and it turns out her urethra was IN her vaginal canal. Why do they scare you with that stuff? LOL

I had a group project for school and this girl (who flunked previously) is now in our class and she sent me her work. WOWZA all I can say is no wonder she failed. It. Was. Terrible. It was so lazy and just plain thoughtless.

tomorrow I am gonna have a few pound gain probably- we eat at a mexican place on most Sundays and the sodium is way higher than my home cooked food, but I am not willing to cook every single meal and never get a chance to be spoiled!

Jacqui_D 08-30-2015 11:04 PM

Oh my word, I really have to get with it! I forgot to take my vitamins this morning and this is the 2nd day for no exercise! Needless to say, that had me dragging today, but tomorrow is a new day, a new week, and just in time to get back in the groove to start a new month! I need to get back in the groove because I have been "off" for the last 3 days!

Bewildered, lol! You are not a hypochondriac. You've just run into a string of bad "physical luck" lately! I hope your eye-twitching is only very briefly temporary! :getwell:

Mary, yay on another half lb! You're on fire! :flame: I agree that you shouldn't have to cook every meal and should be spoiled occasionally, so good for you! :D

Wannabehealthy 08-31-2015 10:47 AM

Another night without palpitations! :)

My waist measurement is around 44-45, as a result of the two abdominal surgeries back to back. I'm not saying that's the only cause, because there's plenty of fat there. It was 39 before the surgery, at a similar weight. When I was thin, my measurements were 36-27-35 and I was always trying to get my waist down to 25 but never made it. I am way into the obese category and don't really expect that to change. I would have to lose a lot to get into the overweight category.

I have this piece of equipment called a Torso Track. You kneel in front of it and put your hands on the handlebars, then allow them to go forward. This stretches your abdominal muscles. I really like it. However, the day before I went to the ER with the abdominal pain, I used it. Even though my pain was due to diverticulitis that perforated, I always suspected that doing that exercise stretched out my bowel and caused the problem, since the bowel was already damaged. Now I'm afraid to use that thing, even though I do need it. DH wants me to get rid of it, but I still want to try it again sometime, gently. Maybe not stretching out as far. The same exercise can be done with a wheel that has handles on it, and you roll it out in front of you, but the torso track has a stop point, and it has tension that causes it to retract back automatically to help you return to the starting position. I know it works because I can feel it in my ab muscles the next day, with only a few stretches.

Here's what it looks like. Sure didn't cost that much when I got it! You might have seen them on TV back then.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Torso-Track-2/17366788

Here's a pic of someone using it. I don't know how well I explained it.

https://s.yimg.com/fz/api/res/1.2/ZG...orso-track.jpg

Jacqui_D 08-31-2015 02:57 PM

Carol Sue, yay on no heart palpitations! That's huge! :yay: Oh please be careful on that torso track! You described it very well, and oh my, it sounds so hard! I'm afraid I'd roll out there and get stuck, haha! It must take some crazy core strength! Va-va-va-voom on those thin measurements, wow! I knew you were an hourglass! :D

My day is finally back on track today! :cp: I got up earlier than usual to make sure of it. I still have to get to the gym but I'm on schedule so far! :carrot:
