Hamburger question

I hope someone can help me, cause i can't find a straight answer on the internet!

How many calories are in a lean ground beef patty? Just a regular size one, nothing mixed in it? Also how much would it be with a whole wheat bun?

Thanks in advance! :D

I think that would depend on how lean the beef, and how many ounces. Is it 80%, 96%?

Agreed.

That all depends on the type of beef.

There's ground beef (the fattiest), ground chuck, ground round and ground sirloin. The fat and calorie content depends on what cut of beef it is.

I agree with the posters. What I tend to do in a situation where I don't know what's in the food I eat is to make an educated guess. I use nutridiary to track my food, so I look there. I'd be likely to examine things that "look like" what I ate. In this case, I'd try to estimate the size of the burger and would probably err on the side of caution -- guessing it to have more fat. I would recommend using a site like nutridiary or fitday to help with these kinds of issues, even if you don't want to write everything down -- they are free!

I do use fitday, but they rarely have exactly what i want on there...or the call it the wrong thing!

oh and it was ground beef

Like everyone said it was dependent upon the 'leanness' or percentage of fat it was.

Lean can be anywhere from 85% - 96% lean.

Ground Beef Nutrition Facts:

3-ounce patty, broiled to medium doneness*
Before blotting or rinsing and draining

Ground Beef Product Nutritional Values:

90% Lean/10% Fat 169 cals, 9 g. fat, 3.7g. sat. fat, 70 mg chol. = 4 WW points
85% Lean/15% Fat 204cals, 12 g. fat, 4.8 g. sat fat, 71 mg chol = 5 WW points
80% Lean/20% Fat 228 cals, 15g. fat, 6.0 g sat.,74mg chol = 6 WW points
73% Lean/27% Fat 248 cals,18 g. fat,7.0 g sat.,77 mg chol = 6.5 WW points

4 ounces raw (approx 3 ounces cooked):

92% lean - calories: 160; total fat: 9 gms; saturated fat: 4 gms; cholesterol: 60 mgs; sodium: 70 mgs

96% lean (usually ground round) - 140 calories; total fat: 4.5 gms; saturated fat: 2.0 gms; cholesterol: 60 mgs; sodium: 50 mgs

leJellyBean -- Yeah, it's not a perfect system, is it? I have trouble sometimes finding the right foods. I console myself in 2 ways:
1) I'm losing weight regularly, so even if I'm doing something wrong and am not completely accurate, I don't seem to be sabotaging myself
2) I'm not counting calories expecting the counts to be perfect, but am tracking foods so I know what kinds of things I've eaten and how much, etc.

I guess what I'm saying is, I've come to terms with the fact that the system isn't perfect, but it's working well for me. Since I started tracking what I eat in nutridiary in August I've lost about 60 pounds!

I have a huge list of customized foods at fitday. Canadian brands, things I make from scratch. It takes some work but now that I have it set up for me, I love it.
