Beef stays in your system for up to 2 months?

  • Has anyone ever heard that beef takes 2 mos to digest. This lady said it yesterday at work(she was coming to a diabetes class) and she said she stopped eating beef because of this reason. Wow. And I just bought meatloaf for lunch today, after hearing this, mind you. Shows how much I care!
  • Ummm ... I think someone's pulling your leg.
  • I've never heard that specifically, sounds kind of like BS though. I'm no advocate of eating beef (or any other meant for that matter) for a number of reasons, I have heard that eating too much of any kind of meat can encourage an unpleasant and unhealthy build-up in your colon (nice mental picture, I know).

YEAH! That's what started the conversation they were having(I was merely listening ) They were talking about cleansing your colon and beef came up. I don't know...
  • I can't imagine that is true. Sounds like a gimmick issue thought up by the same people who make money from cleansing colons (when they know good and well our bodies do it for free!).
  • Nope sorry. Do you remember what the doc told you when your child swallowed a handful of pennies ????? It doesn't take weeks.
  • Food (any food, lettuce, beef, chicken, other veggies, whatever) takes about 24 hours to digest. If it is staying in your body longer it is because of an obstruction that keeps it there (say in your intestines).
  • I remember how grossed out I was when Dr Oz was explaining how meat (beef) basically just rots in your digestive system. Ewwwww! Surely makes burgers wayyyyyyy less appetizing. I can't help thinking about that every time now

Here's a little quote of him explaining what he meant:

Think of every food source as a different vehicle on the highway. Everything travels at different speeds (Get out of the left lane, you good-for-nothing jelly doughnut! Oatmeal is coming through!). Transit time for protein varies (and fat is like a lot of stop signs—they make things go slower). Meat is the slowest to make its way through your body—taking four to seven days to make it to your body's off-ramp and into your bathroom's rest stop. Other less-dense proteins like fish or eggs don't appear to stick around as long. By the way, meat also has lots of calories, so a great way to lose weight is to use less calorie-rich protein sources.

So, it's not two months but it still sounds pretty gross. lol
