Should I be taking an Iron Supplement?
I have been trying to do some research but it seems like every other article that I find conflicts with the previous. I have heard that it is important to take a supplement to ensure that you get enough each day- but then the next place will say that it is dangerous and perhaps even toxic to be taking that much iron on a daily basis.
I don't feel like I am getting enough Iron in my diet- I don't eat a lot of red meat or green leafy veggies, I am working on it but it's difficult. ;) I know that is is important to get enough for the production of blood (? or something...) especially because of menstration. I have also heard rumors that because I bruise easily (and I always have...) that I have an iron deficiency. So, I have been taking an iron supplement (65mg), vitamin c, and a weight loss multi-vitamin every day... is that too much or should I be looking for something else? I guess I am just looking for a way to know what and how much of dietary supplements I should be taking without going to see a doctor- just a rough average. :) |

Use www.fitday.com. Record your foods. You might be suprised at how much you are getting. I was.

I have been. :) That's what brought up the research, I am still only getting about 10-25% of my RDV.

Be very careful with iron. If you suspect you are low...get a blood test to determine for sure. I have a weird condition where I actually have iron levels off the charts high, and I am concerned for my organs. It's toxic in high doses for long periods. I know this is not the norm but you should check to be on the safe side!
