Post your Thanksgiving Day menus!
Hello all! I don't know if a post like this has already been created, but since I can be a Nosy Nelly, I want to know what everyone is preparing for Thanksgiving dinner! I'll start:
Turkey Homemade cornbread dressing Sweet potatoes (with mini marshmallows) Fresh collard greens Homemade macaroni and cheese Deviled eggs Watergate salad Peach cobbler (husband's favorite) Dirt Pie Double Layer Pumpkin Pie (maybe) Rolls Cranberry sauce That's all I can think of right now. What about everyone else??? :thanks2: |
It's a Vegan Feast! All home-made from scratch, except the "Unturkey" which is store-bought.
Now and Zen "Unturkey" roast and stuffing Roasted Roots (Carrots, rutabegas, butternut squash, beets, onions, shallots & garlic) Spinach and roasted pumpkin/red onion salad with toasted pepitas in a balsamic sauce Steamed kale-quinoa salad with slivered almonds and cranberries Mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy "Cheese" cake Cornbread with herbed "butter" |
^If I eat just a small portion of everything, it will be 800 calories!
|
Yikes, where do I begin? We have a large crowd, so there's food everywhere.
Turkey Ham Mashed potatoes with 2 kinds of gravy (some people prefer brown gravy over turkey gravy) Sweet potatoes Green bean casserole Corn casserole (like a corn pudding) Chicken and noodles (a tradition in our family, my MIL makes a big pot of chicken and noodles every year) Dressing Relish trays Crescent rolls Cranberry sauces (whole and jellied) Pumpkin pie Apple pie Pumpkin cake dessert Egg nog I think I got everything, lol. |
Thanksgiving Menu
This is my first thanksgiving ever, so I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible. Mom is bringing over the mashed potatoes, and the rest is on me. It's just going to be me, mom, and DS ... and possibly one of my brothers will come by.
That evening, we're going over to my sister's fiancee's family Thanksgiving for dessert. Appetizers deviled eggs figs dipped in red wine mixed nuts (or possibly roasted chestnuts) crudites (celery, cucumber, carrot, baby-dill pickles) Main Meal salad turkey ("in a bag") baked sweet potatoes mashed potatoes with turkey gravy cornbread stuffing cooked vegetable (not sure which one yet) cranberry sauce (made with Splenda) Beverages white merlot possibly mulled red wine apple cider sparkling white grape juice egg nog Dessert pumpkin muffins (spice cake + canned pumpkin) |
Let's see. This year I'm toning down the menu alot. I usually cook enough for an army, but this year I'm cutting the menu by more than half. It's only me, Dh, and our 3 little ones.
Turkey Breast (cooked in the rotissery) Stuffing Corn on the Cob Mashed Potatoes w/ turkey gravy Rolls Pumpkin Pie deviled eggs (maybe) |
Oh my! There is no telling what will be served if/when I go to a relatives house, there is just so many of us! Well this is what my mom will make for the lovely day:
Turkey Pineapple ham (possibly) Mashed potatoes Mac and cheese Cranberry sauce Cornbread stuffing Baked beans with meat (made with mustard, ketchup, and maple syrup.. bad for you yet tastes soooo good.. like so many things!) Sliced sweet potatoes in syrup Pumpkin pie Chocolate pie |
A vegetarian meal
We are having T. day with my in-laws and I am bringing some of the food.
Roasted veg. soup (me) Tofurkey Mashed millet/cauliflower (in lieu of white potatoes) (me) Sweet potatoes Green salad Vegan pumpkin pie (me) Rolls Probably something like olives/pickles and raw veg. for appetizers. I certainly plan to stay within my points target and I'll exercise in the morning before we hit the road. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. |
I am meeting my mom and sister in the middle -- at my Grandparents house Wednesday night. My mom, sister, and I will all bring different parts of dinner and assemble/prepare it Thursday.
I'll bring: - Turkey! - Low-fat green bean casserole - Pumpkin Roll (with low-fat cream cheese, fake butter) - Mashed potatoes (with broth instead of milk and butter) - Homemade gravy (from turkey drippings) They'll bring: - Cranberry fresh-fruit salad - Stuffing (from a box! It's our favorite!) - Dinner rolls - Sweet potato pie (gross!) - Bourbon-ginger glaze for the turkey I can't wait! I love Thanksgiving! I'll try to fill up on Green Bean casserole and white meat, and the fruit salad. Let's hope I can us moderation with the potatoes and stuffing... it's my favorite, hands down... |
How do you make the green bean casserole low fat? The most fattening thing about it, really, would be the french fried onions. Plus, of course, you can use the lower fat cream of mushroom soup. But if I would omit the onions from my green bean casserole, I'd be clobbered over the head, lol!

Then, I'll put the french fried onions in a ring around the top of the dish, instead of all over the top. It looks like decoration that way, and I'll be able to just eat some of the casserole from the middle...without all of the onions. |
Hey, that's a good idea :)
|
Hungry Girl has a great green bean casserole - totally guiltless at 80 cals/serving!

OH, those onions look great! I've never seen them, though :(
|
I couldn't find those onions, either.
Since I'm travelling, I just made my casserole last night all set to go in the oven when I get to my grandparents... and I ended up putting a small ayer of sauteed onions (in a little spray) in the middle of all the green beens... that way, when I don't get crunchy onions, I'll still get onion taste. And, dude, everyone likes layers. |
