Question to you smart chickies about Green Tea

  • Is green tea better for you in the ready made form (like Arizona or Lipton in the bottle or jug) or in a tea bag that you have to boil?(if they even come in that form, I'm sure they do) Thanks girls, always helpful!
  • The best would be loose leaf green tea, and the fresher the better. Green tea begins to lose its good properties after about 6 months. The green tea at the supermarket has been in a warehouse for who knows how long. Also, the green tea in teabags is usually much finer and is usually poorer quality. I don't know anything about bottled green tea because I've never tried it. I don't think it would be as good for you, though, since it's not freshly brewed.

So I would guess that loose leaf is best, bagged is second, and bottled is last. That's just a guess

I buy loose leaf green tea from www.adagio.com and love it.
  • Thanks Suzanne!
  • From what I've read, the polyphenols in green tea barely count in the cold bottled stuff. Trader Joe's green tea (in bags) measures high for anti-oxidants. I still don't have much of a taste for it, but since it's supposed to be so darn healthy I try to drink it a couple of times a week.

I do like iced green tea in the summer.
  • I know the bottled Lipton green tea probably has alot of antioxidants removed..but it's a really good way for me to get in my daily amount of water. Plus I love the citrus taste.
